As far as I can see, the springs are compressed on each pedal stroke, then released between strokes. If it's well constructed you might get back nearly as much energy as you put in.

If it converts the rider’s weight into forward movement then presumably the rider loses weight as the bike moves forward otherwise it will break the “you don’t get owt for nowt” rule.

well - it would eliminate the rest of the peloton if your front wheel created a nuclear blast

not sure you would get the Yellow Jersey though - you would have to pedal REALLY fast to escape the blast radius
even Lance might have trouble with that one
