I cannot belive people actully think that having a dictator is a good thing! How dumb do you have to be to think that one person having all the power of a nation is a good thing? It doesn't matter if she is a good dictator that lets other people make some choices, she is still a bloody dictator! I'm not saying she isn't good at her job (that I do not know). I'm saying the system is broken.

She is a figurehead for the systems we have in place. The laws enforced in her name (the crown), but have been written, and voted into being by the government of the day. I think you need to go do some homework to better appreciate how and why our constitution exists.

Not flag waving, but flag waiving. Amusingly just as the snp campaign gets underway, the place seems to be plastered with union flags.

I stayed on the Royal Mile last month for a couple of days. I did notice how many union flags were out. Jeez, your roads are in the mess at the moment aren't they.

Tourism cannot be an argument for where political power falls.

Totally agree, quite aside from the fact that no-one can ever actually produce any evidence to support this supposed upside.

The most popular royal-related tourist attraction in the UK is Windsor castle which is a less popular tourist attraction than Legoland Windsor. Ladies and gentlemen, your new Royal Family...

They don't come into being until her maj has given her personal assent, which could be withheld should she wish.

I don't need to do "homework" I know this is how are system runs. What I don't like is how the queen/king can change this. They have the right do deny any MP, PM, law. That is not good. I wouldn't care about having a "fake" queen. She can live in her house and her Son can after that, but the power needs to be taken away from the family and given to the masses.

Yours too, don't think you're getting out of it just by buggering off to the Netherlands!

There's a royal family here too! Quite striking parallels with their English counterparts in many ways - a reasonably well respected queen and a crown prince with a reputation for being somewhat feckless (he was known as "Prince Pils" for a while).

When was the last time they invoked this right, and had itocurred to you that our current monarch has a vast amount of experience in political matters, and that they are able to advise the PM if they think it is a god awful idea ? Perhaps you might prefer the way which Zimbabwe is run where the elected leader (lol) just runs with any idea in their heads ?, or America where realistically only money talks when it comes to election times.?

You also have to consider that their motives are altruistic, and their position is not driven by any political ambition to attain or retain the status they hold.

On the other hand, are people so naive to think that in a Republic we will all be deliriously happy and be farting rainbows? No matter WHO is in charge, they will take it for everything its got, and what if we end up electing some *true* nut job who messes everything up and then refuses to leave/makes sure that they don't?

Sorry, but better the devil you know than that you don't, keep your friends close but your enemies closer and all that. We know all about the Royals, we know nothing about the next wannabee politicians. Why do people want to go into the unknown?
