Better than having to elect one every four years. You think politicians are dodgy now, you'll have a string of egotists who all want to achieve something while in office and screw things up while they're at it. Best stick with the benign old lady in my view.

I'm a republican. However, given the failure of democratically elected politicians in the UK I also think it is just as well we have had a monarchy. WRT the flag it's too garish. It was ok in the psychedelic 60's, Kings Road and all that.. We need a new design without all those crosses on.

Totally agree, quite aside from the fact that no-one can ever actually produce any evidence to support this supposed upside.

How dumb do you have to be to regard our monarchy as a dictatorship?

Try living in a real dictatorship, and see what it really means. If you don't like our system,
go somewhere else!

Personally, I think anyone who really wants power ought to be ruled out of having it!

As for the people making all the decisions, I once heard Brian Sewell interviewed about the Diana memorial fountain, and e was arguing what a waste of money it was. "But", the interviewer said, "the people wanted it".

"The people" said Sewell in his clipped tones, "are idiots". And in a lot of cases, he's quite right.

No it doesn't. Just because people have it worse doesn't change the fact that monachys are dictatorships.
I also find it quite amusing you are using the word benevolent to describe her. That word is mainly used for dictators.

the Queen, or Liz as she likes me to call her, has very little real power. The moment she used her veto for any of the acts of parliament "put before her" it would be removed very swiftly. she is advised an as such does very little in the way of actual decision making.

are the Royals irrelevant in todays society? dunno , maybe, but they earn more than they cost as the tourists coming for the royals don't just spend cash at the royal palaces etc, they spend it all over the show.
