Hi all, just had my first RTA as a cyclist. An 8 seater taxi pulled out on me at a junction and hit my back end. If people are interested, I'll elaborate when I get time. I'm off to the LBS to have the bike looked at.
Got all drivers details and a witness, driver has offered to pay for damage and he seems really genuine. While I'm out, I'd appreciate any advice or similar stories.
Thanks,

Mick

He may seem genuine but people will say anything to get out of a bad situation. Proceed with caution.

Wants to keep his insurance company in the dark over his sub-standard driving?
He has to report it anyhow. Quick ring just to make sure hes insured by them as you were in a collision with he/she should be enough if he/she decides to sweep it under the rug.

As long as you're okay!!
Hope all is settled swiftly and isn't too costly

make sure you have details and witness ... once the driver is a away from the scene and has a think about it, they can cahnge their story.

can you claim for whiplash too?

I can sense the feeling of "I just was lucky/ fortunate" from your post. It happened to me once. I was hit by a car from behind, I did not even fell off the bike but wheel had to be replaced. I had the feeling, GOSH I was fortunate. But good opportunity to reflect.
Now the driver and the bike.
Follow what others have said. He may change his mind once get home and talk to his mates.

A friend of mine knows a guy that got knocked of by an off duty policewoman who offered to pay for the damage until she got the bill and then basically told him that she would have police "witnesses" to say it wasnt her fault.

Back from LBS, it looks like all that's wrong is a slightly wonky back wheel. The lad is going ti give it a full going over to make sure. I've just asked him to straighten it rather than replace (season of good will/ do unto others, etc) hopefully this will mean he's less likely to back out. I honestly doubt he will as he made a point of admitting full responsibility in front of an independent witness (who's details I have).
It shakes you up a bit when this sort of thing happens but being philosophical, if I'd been a yard further back, I'd have been flattened.

Another side to this saga was the fact that I contacted Evans (where the bike is still under warranty) and was told they could do nothing until after Xmas.
I've now lodged a complaint via online. It'll be interesting to see their response.
