Tales from today's commute....

A bit fresher and windier than I was expecting, it was supposed to be +16 degC and a SSW wind (a taily) it felt like a headwind all the way. I think I need to give up on this headset and get a new one, there's just too much play. Ive tried fettling it a bit but no success. It was like this a year ago and I gave up and took it to a bike shop. There was one cheeky pull out from a taxi driver on a narrow road to a roundabout that I go under and drivers usually get stuck at blocking the cycle path. But it was so quiet today that he got straight out and I only had to sit up.

Just a hard stare this time. He didn't close pass to be fair, which if he had it would have meant an added hand signal. 👍

Dont forget your marmalde sandwiches helps with a hard stare apprently.

Gusty swirly winds, not sure which way they're coming from. Warm. Not actually damp, but feels like it might be soon. Legs really feeling this first week back after only a short break. But still smiling to sail past the queues of stuck drivers.

Traffic was pretty bad in places on the way home, such a smug feeling snicking past them, especially having driven one day this week.

Drove our oldest to her university accommodation yesterday. Manchester University main campus location, it reminded me why I didn't use to drive in Manchester.

Watch the bus lanes (Oxford Road) otherwise it's a big fine - you can't drive on it.

The info from the uni on how to get there was very good, and traffic signs are clear. I quite like Oxford Road through the campus now, it is much nicer than when I was there in the early naughties, except for the electric motorbikes.

Today was a commute around the Salient Battlefields in Flanders.

Paying respects to our fallen and musing the needless slaughter in futile laws

Very moving. Unbearable and pointless losses on both sides.

Vantage

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
Coming home from the allotment today I was doored. First time that's happened in over 40 yrs cycling.
Bloody passenger getting out of a taxi didn't bother looking behind before opening the door. Sent my careering into the side of a parked mini van before I somersaulted over the bars. Lack of a helmet meant I didn't bang my head!

Last thing I saw before crashing...

Got to the junction with the main road and there was a car coming from my right indicating intention to turn into the road I was about to emerge from.
Something about the approaching speed made me hesitate and just as well I did as the driver had indicated too early for the next junction along.
At least he gave me a wave of apology as soon as he'd realised his mistake, but proves the caution of never moving off until the 'priority' vehicle has committed itself. :okay:
