First time this month I've worn long gloves (not the first time I've needed them! fingers were cold yesterday). Needed to get a bike box earlier this year so I went into a bike shop- one I rarely visit- so thought it better to buy a couple of things while I was there. Today I discovered a new baselayer and gloves sitting in the drawer ready for me.

@markharry66 for your winter tootsies, get a pair of waterproof socks. Sealskinz or such like. As well as keeping yer feet dry, they are brilliant for keeping out the cold, and worn along with overshoes, well, I think yer tootsies will be toasties.

Winter boots for the win.

Nippy this am. Think this year's winter policy will be ride if cold and dry (ice tyres at ready), but car or WFH when wet and icy.

Edit, two new Marathon Winter Plus tyres on the way to replace the very old Snow Studs. See bargains thread.

As above, cold yesterday, about 5 degrees on the Wahoo, and only 4 this morning, but no ice about, dry roads, and basic Aldi winter gloves were quite adequate. Toe covers on the shoes helped too.

I used a lightweight packable jacket in the morning which can be stowed away for the warm ride home.

Overcast and my rear light decided it needed night mode rather than day flash for the first 15 minutes. Set a good time. Might have been quicker had I decided to overtake a road bike as he was moving just slightly slower than me and I was 1/2 mile from work. Just slotted in behind. Wasn't doing the fly past and turn off trick.

Fine cycling. Still dry and cool.

Interesting psychology: 8 cyclists stopped at a red light (inc me). Someone rides up from behind and jumps the lights. Two of those who'd been waiting peel out of the queue and follow the jumper.

Must've been some accident on the M1 last night and traffic was backed up on the dual carriageway.
Cars were edging forward and one in particular was pinching me up against the kerb, then moving away from me, then pinching me against kerb again. Lanes were plenty wide as this was a dual-carriageway, so I had a look at the driver to see what he was up to - he was too busy messing about on his phone (possibly planning his new route). I tapped on his window to let him know he was squeezing me up to the kerb and he tells me to f-off. Charming, "C.U. Next Tuesday" I said as I went past him.

You can spot these a long way off, one reason I filter on the outside as much as possible. They'll get surprised by an overtaking motorbike and crush you against the kerb in an instant. A helmet camera makes for a high-quality police report to discourage them from this habit with 6 points and a fine.
