Tales from today's commute....

Looked a bit grim earlier so debated taking the car... for about 10 seconds until I saw the traffic on google maps! When I set off there were a few spots of rain but nothing really. Got to office in 20 mins and now feeling smug with all the folks complaining about how long it took them. Almost no nobbers either. Traffic was gridlocked around central Leeds for some reason, think there was a collision on M621.

A colleague has just walked in with a long woolen coat, having walked from the car park complaining it's cold and wet. I said 'it's boiling it's 15c out there'. They say I'm weird. Office full of women so they need the office warmer. Still sat here with a fan cooling me down

As I was unlocking the bike on Monday night a woman at work was surprised I was wearing shorts and wondering if my legs were going to be cold. It was 15°!

This happens to me as well: I arrive at work warm and get shouted at for leaving the delivery door open.

Took one of the variations of the long route home, stopping at various supermarkets and trimming the odd bit of dangly-bramble on the tow path.

The universe must have approved of the latter as looking down for somewhere to chuck the trimmings I noticed it'd gifted me an avacado

As I was unlocking the bike on Monday night a woman at work was surprised I was wearing shorts and wondering if my legs were going to be cold. It was 15°!

we do feel the cold more, thats been scientifically proven, for the record I find our office heating usually cold in the morning, then too hot in the afternoon. But even I was melting on Tuesdays ride in, hadnt exactly been in full winter gear yet, but it was far too much still, so I reverted back to summer kit with arm/knee warmers combo, which was fine this morning but felt alot chillier on the way home, though the temp wasnt that different, I dont know if it just feels damper when it gets darker which makes it feel colder or whats going on.

though I saw one guy last week riding in just a vest and shorts, its not been that warm for sure.

seems all the roadworks have finished for the time being, so despite the schools being back, roads have kind of felt quieter in bits this week so far, though Im encountering the same amount of idiots on the road as usual, and the shared paths are real hit and miss, sometimes theyre completely empty and Im the only one on them, other times Im dodging runners wearing lights, cyclists without lights and people wandering around looking lost.

last nights was a bit weird as it was really quiet but there was some animal bellowing, it wasnt a dog or cat, could have been a deer or fox, but as it was quiet the noise kind of travelled really far so I wasnt sure if it was in the woods following along, or what it was doing, was kind of glad to be back on the road.

where as tonight was lots of fireworks, which was great to see, and loud bangs not always so great to hear if it catches you by surprise on a bike.

According to my ergotherapist colleagues, this is because your skin is thinner than ours.

It's been suggested this is because men developed to go and hunt in all weathers, whereas women developed to protect children, so you needed to be sensitive to temperature changes which would have been dangerous to an infant.

Nice trip in today, hardly anyone on the road this morning, close overtake on traffic island the race to get and sit in the traffic leading up the roundabout must have been important as only about thirty cms between the front of my bike and his car Twat. Got to the traffic lights went to change lane leading up to traffic lights then got cut up by pc plod, must have been a slow day as always when speaking to drivers it was my fault. Got to love the smell of bacon in the morning.

Left work a few minutes earlier, before WWIII began. Managed to miss one firework by seconds - approaching a major town centre on the bike route, someone had let off a big firework right in the pedestrian area. I rode through the 'smoke'. That was about it, fortunately as the bangs mainly started as I was cleaning and putting the bikes away. Was literally a war zone until midnight. The cat's weren't happy.

Pleasant this morning, no wind, mild, but damp ! Traffic looked bad in places, as I crossed the flow to join another cycle route ! Smug, me.....? Lurgy still lurking unfortunately.

Yesterday rode home to the sound of big bangs and the smell of smoke. This morning on the way to the station the road was littered with spent rockets. I'm expecting the next few nights to be the same.

As what Fossy said, very mild this morning. I'm still in shorts and short sleeves for the commute which is mad. The train had the bloody heating on full which made for an uncomfortable ride to Bromley.

A really nice blast along the A21 made for rapid progress with a few junctions at green for go. I kept on over taking a persistent RLJ'ng ebiker along the route. Dressed up as if he was going for an expedition to the Arctic. The temps are 16°.

Heavy legs but fine (warm) autumn riding. Wednesday nights is a later ride for me, but even at 9pm when I was expecting some issues riding through parks, the fireworks were all distant.
