According to my ergotherapist colleagues, this is because your skin is thinner than ours.

It's been suggested this is because men developed to go and hunt in all weathers, whereas women developed to protect children, so you needed to be sensitive to temperature changes which would have been dangerous to an infant.

She did say it was a suggestion. As I recall, it was in the context of a cold morning, and I'd gone and opened the window again...

Oh, I don't know about that, are women mostly thin skinned? I know plenty of men who are really thin skinned, say the wrong thing to them and they get really snotty.
BTW: I think 'ergotherapist' must be another one of those made up words spewed by colleges to encourage the younger elements of society to get a degree in it. Just like a BA in sewing.

The college where I trained to be an Occupational Therapist also trained Ergotherapists, and we occasionally worked with them (it's not a degree course in Germany). We even learned some of the same theory, but they get an astonishing amount of in depth medical training so they can help people develop basic physical, psychological, and neurological skills to live independently. I once saw their exam paper, and it was terrifying.

When I worked in addiction rehab, this was useful as the resident ergotherapist could tell us what drugs or medication a client had taken from a brief description of the side effects, so we knew what else to watch out for, or how to deal with them that day (or if to send them home)...

If you ever find yourself recovering from serious injury or a psychological episode, an ergotherapist is likely going to be one of the people helping you put your life together again.

I would not question it - I have a fan to cool me down. The office is 80% women - just 4 blokes. I am literally called 'weird' in a very PC/accepting environment that I work in.

I have one other cycling ally in the office, but he only does a couple of miles in civvies, and often rides the 'beast' as I call it - his big cargo bike as he's dropped the kids off. Cool bike, car replacement.

Nothing much to report other than its become a bit grey. Roads were pretty empty and I was faster than usual.

Sunshine! Really lovely morning. If it wasn't for all the traffic (aren't they supposed to be wfh today?!) I'd not want to stop at work.

Still mild, still dry. But clouding over. Rain is forecast. I am planning on riding the 27mile journey home. But let's see what the weather brings later.

Left home, down the hill and a queue of cars in the distance due to a bus picking up passengers. Volvo estate goes past quickly and stops to queue. I filter past and queue as well. rinse and repeat 3 x and he finally roars past me into the distance. But wait......i catch up with him at a set of traffic lights. he must have been somewhat irritated.

Had someone 'wheel spin' it passed me last night, caught up at the next traffic lights, then he hit the back of a half mile queue. Ho ho !

Been a good week of riding. Although on Wednesday there was an awful lot of traffic clogging up the country lanes.

A driver asked me what was going on, I said that due to a road closure locally there were simply way too many single-occupancy cars suddenly driving on narrow country lanes, and not enough people riding bikes.

Reported 3 close passes and 3 phone users this week. One of the phone users was sat head down in a queue of traffic. She didn't notice the vehicles in front of her pulling away for several seconds then took off like a bat out of hell, speeding past me to drive through the red light ahead a good few seconds after it had changed to red.

had a couple of cars zoom past me well above the speed limit, its glorious when you suddenly hear the very next car, switches its siren and blue lights on

sadly just coincidentally timed, but I could see both cars drivers absolutely panicked as they both pulled over to stop stop, not just make space to let them past stop. its the little things that you keep you amused on a ride.

but annoying though Im not finding these post clock change rides at night that comfortable at the moment, theres always something thats a bit kind of ooh that really didnt feel that safe, why is that car who just close passed me, now brake testing me kind of thing because were stuck in a queue, normally it doesnt bother me riding at night, but it just doesnt feel like Im getting the space or time from alot of drivers at the moment, and its making me feel more nervous.

like for instance Im expecting the worst to happen now in certain situations, rather than feel like they can see me so they shouldnt be doing those things.

gave riding in a miss today, heavens had opened and fed up bad drivers car goes in for mot tomorrow so wont have car for two days so bound to rain. Went out did 30 on Saturday how is this November was more like late September, loved being out in the sun.

Another lovely morning riding. Sunshine again no wind, cars mostly behaving and completed the don't leave the bike challenge, no feet on the ground, no resting on fences etc. Only 2 red lights (our of a least a dozen when it goes badly) and trackstand for both.

This evening and tomorrow looking like a much soggier affair.
