no didn't oil, the chain was only partially cleaned by hosing it. I thought you should only really oil it when it is fully cleaned. is it alright to top up the oil when it is only a bit clean? I normally do a full degrease, chain bath and reapply oil about once a month. Using finish line wet oil. It was laziness really last night, pitch black and still raining so just did a spray down and dry. I may top up the oil today then. Yes, need to reread Mickle method process.

Very rarely degrease my chains. The only time is when the MTB or CX bike has done an epic weekend/few days of total filth riding. I use finish line wet ceramic. Just oil, then wipe. Then if it's been mucky or wet, wipe the chain again. If it's light on oil, then I'll drop some on and wipe again.

That's all you need to do to keep it clean. Degreasing strips everything out and you don't need to do that often.

I find every commute in the rain needs oil afterwards, or it rusts.

If yours is making those noises, I think you need oil very urgently!
