I'm not into the ink myself but for all you tat-lovers out there, I'd recommend getting hold of the series of books about Russian Underworld tattoos. Linky here, although probably NSFW.

They were compiled by the son of a Mongol? anthropology professor who, because of his class origins, was forced to work as a prison guard during the soviet era. Throughout his career he maintained his own interest in anthropology and became an expert on the Russian criminal underclass.

The books include photos and his own drawing of criminal tattoos, along with an explanation of the meanings. They're a spectacular collection of the funny, rude, racist, irreverent, pornographic and tragic.

Tats aren't for me but anyone who has them done, for whatever reason................it is their skin, their body. Not for me to make any negative comment whatsoever .
One of my sons has tats on the inside of his forearms, something in Chinese or Japanese or maybe Korean, he won't say. Neither will he let on what it says. :cursing:

The bugger.

Sophe Ellis-Bextor (on strictly at the moment) has a really cheap looking tattoo like a sailor. Really does not suit her.

I saw five minutes of some TV programme where Brits were going to Spain and getting very drunk. The evening ended with a visit to an all night tattoo place where they had something stupid tattooed on which they then could not remember anything about in the morning. Amazing that this goes on.

Apart from this example, hot women seem to look hotter with a tattoo but rough ones seem to look rougher.

And some of us look exactly the same, as we regard our ink as meaningful, personal expressions and extensions of our personality and we don't have them in public display.. :cuppa:

I suppose it is the public display ones that are being debated here.

As soon as anything is on public display then rightly or wrongly it is up for judgement. Certainly though the attitude towards tattoos is changing.

Some may be meaningful but others seem more like a doodle I draw while on hold on the phone.
