I will try my hardest not to gain any items from there.* I am a bit of a hoarder as it is. Over the last decade, I have gained lots of items from late relatives, which need to be found a good home. There really is no room for any more things in this house. Fortunately the items that I cannot resist, such as Cash's bird and transport woven silk pictures, and plate, tins, etc with foreign words on them, are few and far between. The area I will be working in, is next to the sorting area, for stuff, so it is, as you can imagine, a big muddle. I shall make every attempt to ignore the big interesting muddle, any way the people sorting it, will not want any "help" from me, I hope.

* and resist the Divine Chocolate etc.

That sounds like a great job Speicher:smile:.

The remuneration is a bit on the low side, free cups of Tea or C*ff**, but job satisfaction will hopefully be very high, and the experience will be very good. It is within walking distance, twenty minutes approx, and flexible hours. I will still carry on at the Pump House Environment Centre on Fridays, I seem, by default really, to have become one of their computer conversant people. And it is very interesting there.

Thanks peoples for your encouragement. It was one of those rare situations, where I think I was the only person who wanted the job, so as I have the right skills, I think, there was no great competition. It will increase my skills, and hopefully look good when I extend my search for a job. Oxfam gains, and so do I!

Well done Speicher, well done.

Thank you. If I get a query I cannot solve, I know that there are lots of very knowledgeable and very kind people in Electric Café who might be able to help.;)

The research of unusual objects might be a challenge, but they seem to appreciate that research of that nature will take time. Some books etc go to Special auctions. I like to think that I will be able to make a very small contribution to Oxfam's projects in various parts of the world. I will be doing something constructive and gaining skills while not working/looking for a job.

Arch.. Arch.. I've found a knitting pattern! "So what?" you may say, as undoubtedly you've got loads. But this one is rather cute - it's to knit a properly shaped jumper for ex-batts when they first come out of a cage & are bald - so they don't catch cold

It looks like Oxfam would like me as their "Treasurer" at their local shop. A very grand title, but it is basically doing the weekly sales returns, the ordering, Petty Cash etc. Possibly research into various items that look like they may be valuable, and general admin assistant to the Manager (who is not a Russian male, but a lady from the Philipines, I guess).

It was the Area Manager who did the interview, and she seems very pleasant. I can chose when I do the hours, about four a week, to start with, and then see how things go. It will broaden my office-based computer experience, and keep me out of mischief.

CONGRATULATIONS Speicher.

Oh excellent! Or egg-cellent...

Is there an association looking for volunteers to knit them...?

There was/is a one local to me wanting stuff knitted. Then there's pretty much all of the battery hen rescue places..

See here

Mind you, red ones are not the best idea, as red is a colour chickens are attracted to to peck at.
