Morning Speicher, may I offer you a cuppa? Hot beverages are going to be in demand methinks. Definitely chillier on the commute this morning.

Hot beverage, thank you. Tasha has been exploring the outside world, and to encourage her to wander about, then come back in (and not go too far) I have left the back door open.

 I think I should shut the door now,

Word seems to be getting around concerning how long it takes me to fill in an application form for a job. Just looked at one, and noticed the closing date is 31st Dec 2009.

That looks wrong, even 31st Dec 2008, seems too long away.

Yikes, that is a fair old while! Maybe you could ask them if you could fill the post until they're ready to start processing the applications, holding interviews etc. Hopefully by that time they'll have realised you're just the person they were looking for and they needn't bother recruiting.

It might also give me the time to acquire the pieces of paper that it says I require in order to do the job. My ten years experience would appear not to count, in the absence of a piece of paper to prove I have the necessary paperwork. Whereas, in practice, support adults with learning disabilities in classes like computer skills, communication etc, would require practical experience, not to mention the unteachable qualities, of Patience, perseverance, and other skills, including understanding people whose speech may be difficult to interpret.

OOOpppps, have I spent too long in Mornington Crescent?:blush::biggrin:

I might contact them with at least a view of finding out how to obtain said qualifications.

Black pudding is on my fry up list, get some iron for this cold weather, yum!

Just pondering the idea of setting up a free bike check outside my local Halfrauds to highlight the issue of shoddy bike assemblage by checking bikes they have sold as safe?
Hmmmm.

Hmm, unlikely to endear you to 'frauds, and there's a lot of potential for things you couldn't easily put right. Indeed, any mechanics you carried out might invalidate warranties etc. I guess the only way to remedy any issues would be to point them out, then send the customer back into the shop.

When I was working for Company of Cyclists, we sometimes did something similar on road shows - we did a basic check, and referred the owner to an LBS for anything more than oiling the chain or pumping up tyres...

Afternoon all. Just been out for lunch with a couple of friends, and fear no work will get done today. No, we didn't have any alcoholic beverages, but I'm in that lethargic "there's no point in starting now, it's nearly dinner time" kind of mood.

On the other hand, I did manage to acheive a few minor things this morning - copied some data onto a CD for someone who wants to use it, read through a paper someone has written and is generously including me on as a co-author (because I supplied half the data), and finally remembered to email the allotments dept to give up my plot.

Any tea on the go?

Bing bong or bbiinn biiiing bong or tiddly tidley bing tiddley bong?

I need to get a new doorbell. Will have fun trying them out.:ohmy:

The one I have got at the moment is triggered by any neighbours who use their remote control to get into their car, but when someone actually presses the bell - silence!:smile: So I know when my neighbours are going out, but not when someone visits me.

Mine goes Brrrrrrchchchhcbrrrrrrrrrhchchchchchchc brr rrrr r rrr

I think it's a bit faulty, it's more of a rattle than a bell....

But then I very rarely have visitors that I don't meet elsewhere (like off the bus, or train), so it doesn't matter much.

Hello all. Just back from a ride made especially pleasant by the discovery of a delightful Tea Shop (Queen Ti's Tearooms). Have a feeling it will become a regular pit-stop for me. Anyway is the pot fresh or do I need to make a new one?

Wotcha all, that tea ready yet?

I'm now picturing Speicher in doorbell purgatory a la Marge and Lisa in the Simpsons episode where the doorbell won't stop playing "Close To You".

The lady in the Electrical shop did not want to sell me a door bell.

When I explained the problem with the current one, she said to check the connector in the "bit you press" bit, and change the frequency in the sounder bit, then if it still did not work, to bring in the battery, and she could sell me a new battery. The door bells she sells (with sea shells) only do "bing bong" not the top ten of the Carpenters.;) She is a very helpful lady, I bought my microwave there, and the ssshhh tumble drier, and my Tv which I won in a raffle with a ticket costing 50p came from there.
