Arch, you're too quick. I was going to string it out a bit. I got lots of pics of birds, including this one, which I was particularly pleased with:

It behaves just the way you'd expect it to, given how it looks. And, yes, this is a Bendire's thrasher.

Wanna see some pelicans?

Oh dear! You as well?

At this rate, we'll have to start a whole new thread entitled "Gin?". Except I know Tdr1nka doesn't do alcohol....

sorry! It was the ringing that clinched it... My, it looks a bit bad tempered. Like it would say 'tut' a lot.

Pelincans! Yes please!

Walking through town with a fellow student and flat mate once, she pointed at the roof of a building and said "look, a pelincan!". We disputed the fact, and were proved right when the head of the pelican flew off revealing itself to be a blackbird, and the body it was sitting on to be one of those bronze decorative ball finials they have on Victorian roofs. She still swore blind it had been a 'pelincan'. Mind you, she was a white witch from Somerset, so her reality might have been a bit altered to start with.

oh right, so it really does have to be Tea? then...

Not that I drink a lot of gin myself, but there's something about it that is just right for when you want to get really maudlin.

How shall I say this ............

One drink would be too many and 100 drinks would not be enough.

*Brightly, hoping this will lighten the mood*

Well, here are the pelincans.

They look clumsy, but they are surprisingly good flyers. They dive for fish, and from a distance it looks like a really clumsy belly flop, making a big splash. I wish I'd caught this in a photo, but didn't manage it - my colleague might have done with his camera.

There were terns about too, and some of the terns would follow the pelicans about. After a dive, the pelican swims for a bit with his bill in the water, swallowing the fish and spitting out all the water. The terns are hoping that some of the fish will escape along with the water, and they'll get some of them. One or two terns stood on the pelicans' backs or even heads waiting for fish - I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

Do they do it all at the same time, or take terns....

Sorry...

Excellent pelicans. I think it was on You've Been Framed on Saturday (I know, I know, it's my low-brow trash fix), there was video of one in a park, trying to swallow a pigeon....

I think we've got one upstairs in the Attic office, in bone kit form....

And apologies for the low mood. On top of everything else, I'm hormonal, so I've been a right misery all week.

Is it a mass outbreak of SAD?

You know, I thought my first cup of tea after a week's abstinence would be fantastic. Actually, it was rather disappointing.

Still, refill, anyone?

Skelingtons in the attic. Hmm, yes, I once worked in an office like that; the skeletons were those of long-dead Volkswagen Beetles, mostly. And violins...

No, it's a mass outbreak of folk getting dumped.

I know my first cuppa after a week away in France is always fantastic. I wonder where you went wrong. Unless.... nooooo, perhaps you're actually a coffee fanatic? Or secretly American? Either way, you need help....

Our attic has hundreds of skeletons, from pygmy shrews to bits of giraffe. Lots of sheep, for various reasons. No whole elephant, but we have an elephant molar in the lab. And a tortoise, now, there's a funny skeleton - the ribcage being the shell, without the shell covering, it looks like a ghost tortoise....

I haven't been dumped (and oh god, you'd hear it from space if that ever happened...) but I am in the foulest of grumps. Sh*tty day at work which has left me all wound up and tetchy. Can I come and sit in the sad corner and snarl at the world? I have pizza, mulled wine and beer for those as want/can.

We can all huddle up for warmth under Waffley's bloomers this parachute.:girl:
