Thank LoTP for your kind comments about me not scaring peeps away, and that I have no need for (further) normalisation. Sit down comfortably with a cup of tea and I shall begin.

No-one seems to want to guess at my activity at the Library on Tuesday mornings - I was selling Charity Christmas cards. The Fathers Christmases were our advertising boards, they are made of cardboard and are not very sturdy. Sometimes people come in asking for particular designs, rather than their favourite charity, which is how the reindeer and dogs get mentionned. Some people wanted RNLI cards (lifeboats) and some wanted the Air Ambulance cards (helicopters). Its quite sensible really.

The "environment thingy" is, I know, terribly technical. I am a volunteer Receptionist at a place called "The Pump House Environment Centre". We get involved in all sorts of activities, research, resources, recycling, fair trade items, etc etc.

Today, amongst other things, I was researching details of "Earth Day 2008" (June 5th if you would like to know) so that we can start ideas for activities in the park next to the Pump House.

We sell Ecover products (mostly as refills) so I did a mini stock take on that. Usually we have a steady stream of visitors asking questions, requesting information on things like ground waste heat source pumps, Photo-voltaic panels, solar panels, insulation materials like sheep wool etc etc. I do not understand all the techny bits, but have info I can give them or people who do know.

Starting in the new Year, I will be involved in a conference on the creative use of waste materials. So if, for instance, you have 50 metres of elastic, 20 pieces of rubber tubing, and 50 blue bottle tops, and you don't know what to do with them, we will find someone who can use them in an artistic way. We already re-use vast quantities of scrap (spectacle cases were used as the "bodies" of bugs, and the bugs were given arms, legs, tentacles etc from scrap plastic etc). This may sound very strange but if you saw the finished articles I think you would be impressed. It saves hard-pressed schools spending lots of money on craft materials. It also provides activities for school children during the holidays. We run courses on the subject of the environment during term time. The scrap material is collected at the Resource Exchange (each County has one, I think), and as a Volunteer I am sort of connected to that as well. BTW, you should see my garage, it is also a recycling centre. Does that answer your question.

We also have a water collection system, trillions of energy saving devices, and our Company Transport is a bike. On the reception desk is a clock running off an orange (I think I might have mentionned that before). i am not sure what you would do if someone mentionned c*ff**, :ohmy:as we do not use tippex!

Welcome back. I was just about to leave. Have a nice hot cuppa to feel better after your accident.
Do be careful if you think you bumped your head.

Ecxuse my ignoramusness, but is there another type of economics besides financial? You could pop in tomorrow to let us know how the exam went.

Excellent timing LOTP, I have just finished my lunch. Did you read my (very long) explication of the Pump House? Make sure you are sitting comfortably before you start, I did not intend it to be so long .
