Tea? (Part 1)

Shinamo, I am not German BTW.(As mentionned a few pages back). My forum name is German for "computer memory", chosen to reflect the fact that one of my grandparents was German. I nearly chose Stumpfgleis (a type of railway platform) but tricky to spell.

Thank you LOTP, could I have jam OR marmelade with my toast, and not both, and tea please.

I always arrive at a sort of stumpf , never mind I instantly thought of Speicher , an area of Hamburg , it was once a huge dockland and Alte Spicher still exists with import warehouses open to the public , with many carpet importers from N.Africa . it is now a preserved area (Alte Speicher that is ) with the dockland area due for development , it is quite an important development in N Europe and quite famous .

Mind you, it may well be cancelled as it's a tad gusty out there at the moment..

If it's not cancelled waffly, don't expect a fast time. Unless the course is wind assisted along it's entire route. Then it could be a world beater

Well, I did not know all that. I knew that Speicher was also German for "warehouse", but kept that under my hat as it were.

If you arrive at a sort of Stumpf, where are you? I have been to Hamburg but only to arrive at the docks, by boat and go by taxi to the Hauptbahnhof. My Grandfather was a tram conductor in Koln.

Hello all! Just popped into Uni, having fulfilled my promised mission earlier in the week (oh, pages and pages ago now!) to take pics of the mail collecting system on a Mail Train...

Here is the bit on the train. It folds away against the side when the train is running,, like a drawbridge. You can see the peg on the gibbet, and (just to the left of the bag) the fitting on the bag that went on the peg, and simply slid off as the train rushed by and scooped it up:

Here is the scoop on the ground that collects the bags put out along the way for distribution...

And here is the sorting part, complete with suitable tea mug...

So I think that a mug of tea might not survive the process all that well, but with a fine enough mess net, a thermos might do very well...

That is a very pretty little leopard, Waffles. I'm not sure about 'cute'. Looks far too deadly to be cute...



Speicher, I have some friends who have enormous mugs. Not quite 12", but very big. I am often quite slow to drink a cuppa (I talk too much!) and I hardly ever get to the end of one before it goes cold, or they have started making a fresh batch of tea. Sometimes, I have to ask for half a mug, to avoid waste. And to be helpful, I always say I'll be happy with the bottom half...

Tea sweetocorn & tuna . Stumpf is blunt i thought it translated as blunt platform or terminus ) . It's a nice city Hamburg , Speicher was notorious for drug smuggling also , it is a nice area now , nothing residential , but opposite on what was dockland is a proposed development which was controversial 8 9 years ago . I had a toy one when I was a kid Arch and a piece in the line used to tip the mail bag onto the platform and there was a little grey pole that you hung the plastic bag onto to collect . BTW Speicher was also a term used by the vikings meaning a landing place , hence it fell into use for small island or peninsula .

Occassionnnally found in this country, there is one in Oxford and also Swindon, and may be others. Oh bother, I should have enquired at The Map Shop if they did a map of If you visit Whitby, there is a restaurant in what used to be part of the Station. If you are not terribly observant, you might not notice this. Not many trains arrive. But when you are consuming your dessert, you may look up to see a train heading straight for your table. I was expecting that to happen, but some other diners were obviously not expecting it.

York has a couple of deadend platforms, and so soes Sheffield and Leeds, I think, and Bradford station is a complete deadend...

I like the sound of the station resturant.

There is also an excellent tea shop at one of the Stations in Malvern.
One of the best meals I have ever had, was at a Chinese restaurant at a Station in Sweden. I had no clue what I was ordering, but it was all lovely and the service was excellent. I had not got time between trains to look for another restaurant, so was very pleasantly surprised.
