Someone has suggested that after my marathon egg buying trip yesterday, I should consider sourcing them from you, for an even longer ride!

What meat? I had carbonara* last night to use up the bacon, so it's leftover tuna and tomatoes tonight, on pasta.

*with a side serving of a sort of minimalist ratatouille. Courgette, red pepper and fresh tomato chopped small and fried alongside (but not mixed with) the bacon and onion. I've noticed a funny habit - I make sauces of stuff all mixed up (like my bolognaise, which usually has meat, pepper and olives in it along with the tinned toms), but then when I eat it I sort of pick the bits out in order, leaving the meat to last (favourite bit), and then scoffing what's left of the pasta. The joy of living alone I guess is that you can develop oddities like that.

The bread is baked and is be devoured as I type, as I have made ham & mustard sandwiches for lunch.

Meat for this evening is chicken thighs (free-range, 'natch) as I'm going to do some sort of chicken casserole.

Guess what I've just realised I forgot to do. Take my tea out of the freezer to defrost.

Just realised that due to a short Wednesday, I have another hour and a half, not just half an hour at work.

I'll be needing a cup of tea myself.

Helen, is it something you could help along by immersing in warm water? I do that sometimes with portions of mince (in a bag of course, I don't just put the mince loose into water...)

Not really, it's spinach and ricotta canelloni. It could get rather messy. I could defrost it in the microwave or just cobble something else together (or go to the chippie).

I take it you aren't expecting company tonight.

I've just told my mum I'm thinking about cycling down to London when I go to see my sister. I've got a week off and fancy hopping onto Sustrans route 1 and meandering my way down. She's seriously unimpressed with the idea. I guess it's a mum's job to worry.

It's a mother's job to worry about their offspring no matter how old they are. Whatever she thinks could happen to you on your journey to London could as easily happen 10 yards from your front door. Still I'm sure she'll be relieved/impressed when you ring her from your sisters.

Brew please we are grabbing the opportunity tomorrow (allegedly good weather in NW) to do a 50 miler it's on Bikely but i'll let you all know tomorrow if I complete it

That sounds like fun Corvette chic. Remember you need to eat and drink plenty if you're doing a longer distance. I recommend cake.

My mum suggested I stick to the main roads. When I pointed out that I cycle on the quiet roads round here I think she accepted I was right. She said 'you're really getting into this cycling aren't you'.

Last night's concert by Dennis Locorriere was brilliant

It was a long concert - started just after 8pm finished at 10.45 with a short interval. I was very lucky when leaving. His No One fan in the whole of Britain, was talking to him at the "stage door", and every one else except his roadies, had left. So she and I, and perhaps her husband were talking to Dennis for at least oooohhhh ten minutes, about how he decides which songs to put in each concert and why. He has a lovely soft Canadian accent , and although he is sixty years old, well good looking . I even gave him a and a teensy .
