One of the discussions today was Simpon's Index of Diversity, quickly followed by what a mouse was called before it was a mouse. Anyone know the answers to those?

A measure of the number of species present in a habitat, and an X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System.

Google is a wonderful thing.

Today, I learned the German for Pressure Cooker. Although Google translate says different. We found a cook book (well, pamphlet) in German, Recipes for Schnellkochtopf. Google says it's Dampfkochtopf, with Schnellkochtopf as an alternative. So it's either a Fast cooking pot, or a Steam cooking pot. Or boringly, Druckkochtopf, which is Pressure cooking pot.

I see that we are getting all diverse in this thread.

The German for pressure cooker (in my giant German dictionary) is Druck- or Dampf- or Schnellkochtopf.

:scratch:Looking those options up in the German section = no result. One of my colleagues at the Pump House is German and she worked in the catering industry, I think, so I might ask her next week. The mind boggles as to why recycling in York brings up the question of the translation of pressure cooker into German.
