Quite a bit more snow today...

Walked in, got the trike out, pedalled into town to do the round. Came back with a trikeload of stuff and unloaded. Not all that difficult, although the slush was clogging the front wheel a bit. Then we cleared some more snow off the compound - we cleared down to tarmac for about 45 minutes, and by the time we stopped, there was about an inch fallen again where we started. Better to keep on top of it though.

After lunch, we helped the volunteers clear more bits of path, and using the snow thus cleared to fill recycling boxes and make bricks, we built an igloo! I've got photos on my phone, but can't download them at the mo, need to find my card reader. It's a big igloo - big enough for even my tallest colleague to stand up inside! But the entrance is tiny, so you have to wriggle in, commando style.

In the places where it's been undisturbed all week, it's getting on for a foot deep...

Tea?

Well Doc, you are more then welcome to chez Ian to help yourself to the copious amounts of snow we have here. I have shovels and you can use one of the recycling boxes as a block maker....

They work quite well, assuming they are the sort that flare outwards towards the top, because that helps the blocks to lean over naturally if you stack them on their sides. Although there is still some shaping needed to tesselate them well - ours had some gaps that needed filling from the outside with loise snow. A wood or pruning saw works fine.

I think I've seen that true Inuit use a saw vigorously between blocks to trim them, as it warms them, melts the ends slightly and then they stick together better.

As you have correctly surmised, Pots, it is my nose and throat that is unwell, not my brain. ;)

The weather is mild, compared to the rest of the country. I snowed this afternoon for about an hour, so we have a sprinkling of snow. Very cold at night, and the cats just go out for the occasional hour or so.

Do you have dandruff?

Evenings!!
A distinctly chilly WNRttP, and somewhat slower than usual because of the snow and ice.
And perhaps because I was on the Brommie...

I need some food, a warming drink and a bath, possibly not in that order.
Scotch is quite warming, isn't it?

 I'm in for a shock! I land back in the UK on Friday lunchtime and somehow have to get back up north. The roads sounds pretty dicey from what I can gather from the BBC website. Fortunately I have friends near Heathrow on standby to take me in if necessary.

Tea anyone? I've left you all an extra large, extra warm pot.:cold:

Yeah well, it's the news isn't it. The whole world has ground to a halt. Except for all the people just getting on with it... Now the snow's hit the South, they can't talk about anything else (except for the bloody World Cup bid).

Although I am working from home today - not recycling obviously! Bikepete suggested it - I admit I'd have been a bit nervy cycling in, as the roads are all narrowed by a mound of slush at the side, but I'd have walked it if I had to.

National Rail Enquiries website suggests that trains to York out of KingsX are running, and on time. I suspect that unless we get a lot more today, the motorways will be passable.

Lucky you're not flying into Gatwick though....

You might find it a bit chilly after LA I guess...

Look forward to meeting up for a real cuppa and hearing all about it!

Tea anyone?
