It is indeed! It's what happens - when a flippant remark or hands shook can just spur you onto something much more.

My friend ran her first Marathon after we met up in the pub for drinks after she came back from travelling- she said 'maybe' she was going to do it but we shook and she didn't back out.

So here's a digital handshake--! No smiley for it which is a shame.

As for me, we'll have to see what happens- will have to work up to a century- long distances are not my strong point!!

Up to May last year, my maximum ever was 68, on my old trike. I did 70 in May in company, and 100 in June, alone. It hurt, I won't pretend it didn't, but the bits that hurt were my bum, and shoulders and hands - basically the contact points. My legs only started to complain at 90. It was sheer utter bloodymindedness that got me there. That, and creeping up on it - I didn't set out determined, but once I'd done 70, then 80, there was no wimping out. (The bummer being that I got back into York on 90, and had to turn round and double back for 5 miles to be sure of the total. I finished on 100.23)

So, I'll see your LEL shake, and raise you a century shake. No timescale, just when it feels right. What's your max so far?

Oh bloody hell..grumble...I have to commit to something....

Max is 76 miles I think-shouldn't be too much to do a century, though was in a better state then. I think the important thing that I've learnt is to build up to it carefully as otherwise I'll end up wiped out for a week. Struggled carrying about 8/9 bin bags of stuff down the stairs today to my housemate's car to ferry it down to the charity shop- am definitely a long way off being fit and healthy but if things settle down life wise, it may be easier to get out riding again and get some big leisurely miles in.

You're on Arch!!!

Jeez, this is serious.

 I think it is!

Good luck Arch. Have you thought about which bike to use?
I helped at one of the controls and being part of the madness for a few days did tempt me to think about thinking about the next one.

ttcycle: you've got some good company and plenty of organised rides in your part of the world so all being well you should be able to reach your target comfortably.

Longers, this is not the place for thinking but doing...go on..do it!!

I think you're right- plenty of CCers in these parts for a nice chilled out ride- probably the best way as if I do the century on my own I may push myself too hard and end up sleeping all week after it! Tut fool that I am!

Well, if you've done 74, first work back up to that - you've got it in you, you just need to find it again. Then 80 is a doddle. After 80, 100 is really not so much further.

I don't want to sound like I'm nagging, because I know my responce to nagging is to dig in. But I know you can do it.

Anyway, is the kettle on?

I'm half listening to the Lottery quiz thing with Dale Winton, where do they get those dimbos from? One chap got a question on Greek Mythology and said "ah, I've watched a lot of films with a Greek god theme, Thor and all that..." Amazingly, he did get Mount Olympus right, after that.

Another woman, who looked a good ten years older than me, failed to get Cuba as the island the US and Russia nearly went to war over.... I wasn't born, and I know that.

That said, I'd look pretty dim if asked anything about football.

Ah, another one!

I'm thinking the recumbent trike. With a comfy seat, it's just the legs and the lack of sleep to cope with. On an upright, there's the bum and arms and all that. Also, on the trike, I descend much faster!

But it's three years off, god knows what bikes/trikes I'll have then!

I definitely recommend trying for a century in company tt, even though I did mine alone. Company helps so much. And the right company will know just how to help you along. I'm thinking the FNRttC sort of people. I'm still cursing that the Northern one this year clashes with the York Rally, and me working the next day. I'd love to come along on one sometime.

'Ningles!!!!

Well, that's inspired me. I'm off on a ride, even though it's all slushy out there.
Plus I need to get the car back from where I left it last night. 15 miles on the Brommie await.

It's been steady & heavy snowfall all morning here - just tailing off now. The hens had fun in the snow for a while, joined by a pheasant who was completely unspooked by my presence, probably due to the hens being completely at ease.

Wet, cold and miserable down here.:sun:

Just took Miss t on the tandem to meet with the Bromey massive, but it got too cold for Miss t who for a short while was in tears and in danger of being put off cycling for good.

Thankfully a cup of Redbush Tea and a nice warm bath has mellowed her mood somewhat. Might drag her out to Decathlon for some warmer bike gear in a bit.;)

Tea, tea, tea, tea!
