Steepletone were a big player in that market over the years, pre internet (jeez, when did the net start again?), we got the CD from Cabletel on the Thurs and were on by the Sunday, oldest Mhor child had a school project and I jumped on my motorbike, down to Homebase and bought phone extension cable thingy and voila, all the info you needed on Wabbie Burns....
Had to do a rota

It's surprisingly much easier on a computer (laptop or whatever)..
Have a shifty at SDRplay SDRuno YouTube stuff (other SDR stuff is available)
AirBand? dawdle...listening only..
A bit more complex yakking to folk abroad, licence (unless breaker breaker or Freebanding as it is called), most times it's you are 59, blah blah, 73 and yer away again. 59 is a generalisation, you exchange signal reports and callsign then yer off hunting someone else, the occasional chat though.

Fuel, a girl called Happiness sorted it for me.....
I know they were big years ago. Better has come along in the time since I bought the first one. The smaller one I showed earlier, was bought because I knew battery power may be required at some stage. That and it wasn't too big either.
What would you do without the internet now? Shop I worked in had dialup into 2011. Having to go up, make the connection, then wait for anything inbound, as well on anything being sent. Large stock files used to half an hour or more to download. During which time the shop phone was out of action. Calls made on our own mobiles during these times.

I know airband is listen only, but that radio received a few local amateurs broadcasting. When away from the biggest drain on any clear signal, too much going on.
There's a CB setup in the attic, just needs setting up again. Never really got into it. Think the Rubber Chicken killed any interest left.

Happiness, odd name. She wasn't pulling yer leg were she?

Could you look at the ham licence?
Three stages...(no need to move either)
Have a look at Essex Ham online courses....HERE
You get more watts to play with now......
plus, cheap Chinese handles are available from across the seas.
Two bands 2m and 70 fm....
Quansheng have airband too... You tube the Quansheng UV-K5 :cuppa:

I remember my first bit of naughtiness, took almost 36 hours to download....
now seconds..

CB has died a death but still folk on there, think our local lot has a looney or two yet(so I'm told) but a few still moving up to ham...
I know it's an expensive hobby to start..
BUT in 1988, I bought a Trio HF and 6m transceiver and a mighty power supply..
almost 1200 uk quids..

Twinings Everyday.......
Forgot add the YT was in 240 boxes
They do too many "fancy teas" these days, compared to days past. Just to cater for those who want something different.
Noticed the box size. They, like others, seem to be trying different areas to see where they can get away with it.

I think it's all those different coffee's that became available for the outbreak of fruit flavoured teas. And the flavoured ciders available these days. You're only "in" if you've drunk the latest offerings.
Plain black tea or coffee...
Just seen an advert for the last stage.
What'll you waste yer spare time in the evenings on now. Le Tour isn't due to start for a while yet.
And you like "normal", don't you...
