G'day folks :hello:

The kitchen ceiling has it's plasterboard up and the walls walls are part done. The plasterer needs another day at it so there isn't any chance of the fitting starting tomorrow, as planned. It seems to be shaping up like the bathroom - a nightmare that drags on. The oven and hob got delivered earlier so they had to go into the hall - the garage is already full.

The bathroom guy was also back today to fit the mirror(nice job) and have a go at the radiator - he got instruction from the heating engineer and got the job done. The bathroom is finally complete, bar painting the ceiling.

I got a recommendation for a painter and he is to call tomorrow to look at the job and let me know if he can take it on. Fingers crossed that I can make some progress there as I really don't want to try to do it myself.🤞
Owdo

The ceiling and walls were finished in Artex, I'm assuming.

Nothing "historical" found in all this work. Other than the pipework. Surprised you don't know your own face yet and still require a mirror.

Don't know why you're in a rush to get the heating on, we've a summer* this year! You'll be complaint it's too warm.

Dragging on!! It once took a company the best part of five months to replace a gas fire. And they fitted it with the flue cover fitted for shipping still in place. Second company to rectify their work required. Carbon monoxide filling the rooms either side.

Your on the home straight now, with the finish in sight.

*Don't blink, you may miss it.

viral cleaning guru(YouTube influencer*) who seems to be resurrecting the old methods of cleaning, and presenting them as her own.

*I'd to check myself, never having heard of her either. Till now!

She makes a reported £5,300 from each video she posts on YouTube.

Seems folk don't know how to clean these days, and are paying to see "How it should be done". See how long she lasts.

t'as indeed.
Do mean to say you've spent all day today inside. Or are you practicing for the local version of "Dragon's Den".

"Viral Cleaning Guru" on a CV doesn't sound very good.

Good luck to her: she's presenting useful information and earning money; I may well use her methods to teach my clients.

And it's "Online lifestyle trainer" or "Housekeeping trainer", it'll be fine...

Only used her description of herself.

You'll be using vinegar for cleaning your windows, and tomato ketchup for copper and brass cleaning.

"It'll be fine..." For how long though?

The kitchen ceiling and walls had 'Artex' - all gone now.

Oh, this house is HOT! One day, pre pandemic I called at Mrs B's Day Centre to bring her home and I was met at the door by a carer who warned that the place was quite hot. In I went, to find the place like a sauna and Mrs B under a blanket because she was feeling the cold. She was never like that before dementia so I reckon the disease has wrecked her thermostat, along with the rest of her brain! When Mrs B's at Day Care I turn the heating off and open the windows - bliss.^_^ At home I sit around in T shirts and shorts - Mrs B sits all layered up and under a duvet.

The easiest way of dealing with it.
Possible to remove, but messy, or plaster over.

I know two who felt cold in the summer '95, both younger than missen. The brain is a funny thing.

I admire you for getting stuck in and getting so much done. I've got upgrading that's been needed for years and I just keep putting it off.
I didn't have much choice Mo. The previous owner had been putting things off for about 25 years. Even the neighbours have talked about how she didn't do anything in the years she was here.

It has been rough though, as I have to cope with Mrs B at the same time, and she is even more confused by everything. I feel the pressure of needing to get things done while Mrs B is able to cope to some extent. The congestion caused by stacking stuff anywhere it will go and the dust/debris is just getting me down I've given up trying to stay on top of it as it's just one storm after another. It's no joke to say that the place looks like a building in a war zone - that includes what look like bullet holes left behind some of the work to date!

The downside is that I don't feel settled because of the work. The heating and electrical work have left the place looking worse than it was, even though the systems are now better. If I feel like that, goodness knows how Mrs B is feeling(she hasn't the ability to explain her feelings).

I'm trying a 3rd painter later but it looks like I may have to do that myself and I don't want to as it's a hell of a job.
