My plans have changed - I can do this week's chain gang now, however I also have the opportunity of a real bike ride so wanted to check who's available tomorrow evening or are we more likely to have a bigger turn out for Saturday's session, as I will save my legs for one or the other.

How about this for dedication - I had to agree to painting & decorating for a few days so we didn't go away, lol...

Im pretty much the same as you, If needed I have to make my "ive got to take my rabbit to the vet" excuses at work so im home in time as im thinking real life Saturday weather permitting

What we/I found in drafting we did, Adam picked up on it. Don't try and go round in a circle every 30secs, let the strongest rider lead until they want to back off, then next in line takeover until they have had enough, so on. Ideally you would want more than 4 so there is plenty of rest, keep in the swirly bit, until computer decides then all of a sudden power effort drops and speed goes up

I agree with this. let the strongest rider power on at the front for as long as they can before dropping back. The draftees can tuck in behind waiting to take over. The aim is to keep the pace up. The faster riders should be able to average 42-43kph especially with drafting. The fastest a bit more than that.
Thanks for the info .

I think. for most of us slower riders, it will be a battle of survival :boxing::boxing::B):boxing::B):boxing::blink:. If we can join up and make it to the end in almost one piece it will be like winning :wahhey:. A 20-21mph (32-34kmh) average is achievable I think. If later in the session I or others feel strong enough to up it a little they can try and see if any one can go with them xx(.

^_^I would have some fuel for the trip. It is a long ride. Perhaps a gel or something after 20 miles. I think Ads did it without breakfast:notworthy:

Did a bit of training today 14km uphill on one of these railbikes with 3 passengers who we're not prepared to pedal. Not the fastest of kit to go uphill on but did manage nearly 30mph on the way back down much to the disgust of the passengers.

I'd be happy to join you on that plan as 20mph is likely to be the best I could possibly hope for over that distance with no downhill sections to take advantage of.

Mind drafting isn't something I've done a lot of, so it could be interesting
I'll try to join too, although I did a Moose ride tonight (Sand Road) so depends how I recover tomorrow. I average 18 mph on my own, so I would think you 2 drafting, with a few others helping out, should get you up to 20-21 mph OK. It's a long old schlep on your own, so definitely stick together to keep the interest.

Well you'll be pleased to hear I was the fastest in the pool this evening. I had a great race with the guy who was previously the clubs fastest swimmer, and beat him....just.

It is only fair to admit at this point that this guy has lost the use of both his legs as a result of a very bad motorbike accident. The only reason I could just beat him, was because I was able to push off at the start of each new length.

The guy swims like a flippin' dolphin, and uses just his arms.

RESPECT!
Well that is pretty bloomin' impressive, when you hear things like that it puts into perspective the whole struggling in my garage riding a bike thing.

I have a friend who is a swimmer, she was in the 2012 Olympics for team GB. Now that she has retired (at 22) I tried to convince her that riding bikes was a good place to head. Beat her up a hill locally on her first ride out (she didn't realise that bit was a race) so I now justifiably claim that I beat an Olympian in a race up a hill.

I know this is not really a virtual trainer type question but I will ask it here as the outside world of the rest of cycle chat is full of scary professional types.

Have any of you tried a Saris bones 3 car carrier? Decided it was time to treat myself to a new car that added the cat to my fat but because the one I am looking at is made of aluminium apparently you can't fit a tow bar and it is also not possible to fit roof bars. It is a long time since I have tried a carrier that wasn't either of these types and the old strap on one's used to scare me that they would damage the car. Has technology for this type of carrier moved on and if so have you any recommendations?

Thanks.

I'll be there, but that is probably the end of my BKool stability. From now on I'll be trying to get as much (real world) time on the time trial bike as possible.

I have one. Only used a few times. It is fine though being quite clumsy I find it a faff to set up. If I was looking now I would probably go with sea suckers. Have a look at the road cc review.
