That will explain why you two never seemed to catch me even though I was backing off a bit in the last third of the flatter section - I was getting a bit jealous of your drafting! I think your race tactics are a bit more refined than mine!

Bridgy, great ride. You are making huge strides.
I caught Bill and AAAC once and stayed with them for a while but ran out of puff. I went after and almost caught them 3 times but I was on the limit and couldn't get into the draft and so they pulled away. Pretty impressive to see them working together but if you don't have the strength to ride in front like you today then you have to find the strength to ride with them or they are gone. Great fun though!

My HR is always one of - if not the - highest in the races. I can only assume everyone else just isn't really trying (which in your case, would be very annoying yes!!). I actually have quite a low resting HR so not sure why it's relatively high in the races actually

I think mine must be similar to yours, as soon as I get on a bike it goes up, on Tuesday I averaged 170 ish, peaked at 183. Tonight the monitor refused to work, it as quite nice not having to look at that number and just get the watts to where I wanted them to be for the ride regardless of what the heart was doing.

My heart rate is a fair bit lower these last 2 weeks or so but I think that reflects fact I cannot putting out the watts.so lately in the 150's very occasionally going higher but so fleetingly as if to mock me. I wouldn't mind if, like AAAC,lower HR still meant decent watts but that ain't gonna happen soon:sad:

Thanks Bob - I know what you mean about trying to stay with them though - we have recent experience of this with Bill in the TTT! I think they were both very confident with the small gap I had on them on the flat section that they'd have me on the hill though - which they did of course!

i think it made it alittle easier for me being a light light weight - i dont think the resistance is any harder at 15% than 10-11 % - i hope not anyway as there has to be a perk somewhere - as soon as the slope reduced i was watching the seconds dissappear 2 at a time what was horrible as there was nothing i could do about it . i had to keep standing up as i felt more comfortable but then the wheel slipped so had to sit down till legs burnt
That's a bad sign for me if I was to tackle that course. The kickr gives me resistance up to around 17% before it turns blue.

Don't get me wrong - i don't think the bkool is making life easy , there are some 15% hills around here ( only little ones but sharp shocks ) and i think it is easier to go up them in real life rather than pretending in my shed . i can only compare the both on a local route that i put on bkool and although i havent done it lately , the time in the real world was overall very much the same as bkool world but with bigger highs and lows so it averages out

 That is my expression of AAAC, when he describes about keeping his heart rate low, whilst putting huge power compared to the rest of us average Joe's.

His behavior reminds of a cat toying with its prey, before it's get bored.

Yes my kickr would of ground me to a halt on a climb like that. I noticed the kickr still has the bkool bug about slow starts, shame really.

Anyone still smarting from that climb should definitely NOT take a sneaky look at stage 5 like I've just done
time to roll out my leg saver

That's my experience too. Yesterday 14.9 % was clearly much harder than 8% and seemingly harder than real life. But it has been suggested you push through the resistance and then it settles down to equivalent of 8/9%. I cannot make that happen:blush:

Nice write up AAAC.

It amazes me how much clarity of thought you have at key points in rides. My thoughts don't usually extend beyond not trying to choke on a jelly baby by that point.

I may of just solved the mystery of my lack of weight loss...

I'm with you there @TurboTommy - I struggle to eat or drink as i am gasping throughout the torture.

But I did clearly remember going past AAAC 30 seconds into last night's effort - I thought what's going on, but it didn't last long ,and normal service resumed as I tailed in last, but you can't take those memories away.

What a sad life I lead.

Talking of Bkool comparisons with real life, I've just done one of my regular local 20ish mile rides on Bkool and so I have a direct comparison. Bkool is quicker! I don't think that's surprising really, as there are numerous factors that can slow you down a bit in the real world which accumulate up - dodgy road surface, wind, slowing for bends and junctions, traffic etc etc - so I think a lot of the difference can be explained by this. Bkool is like doing it on a constantly perfect road surface with no slowing down for corners etc and in absolutely perfect weather conditions! I find my speed on specific sections of the ride is pretty comparable to real life, but the overall average speed works out at about 3mph quicker on Bkool because of all these factors. Having said that, my best in the real world was done last October before all this Bkooling so I'm hoping I'm a bit fitter now and I'm looking forward to having a go at bettering that time when the weather warms up this year!
