By public demand, tonight there will be a rerun of the Handicap Climb with adjusted rider weights to equalize Watts/Kg

Session is password protected, password is chase (type h twice if help screen appears)

Course is Merry Harriers (x3) - http://www.bkool.com/profile/detail/618501?durationType=DISTANCE&lapCount=3

I will start the warm-up close to 8:00pm BST (UTC+1) to ensure the race starts around 8:10pm BST (UTC+1).

Everyone taking part should adjust their weight to the allocated value before entering the warm up, preferably with at least 5 minutes to go.

Weights are generally reduced, in some cases considerably, to achieve the target Watts/Kg, so speeds should be higher than usual. The main part of the session should not take more than around 20 minutes, and in any case less than 30 minutes, to avoid changing Fitness Levels. Anyone taking longer than 30 minutes would be advised to discard their session without saving.

The Start (for everyone) should be between 8:05 and 8:10, when the warm-up ends.

Once underway, there is a short neutralized zone (0.1 miles or 0.16 km) to avoid taking advantage of the lowered resistance at start, where no-one is allowed to overtake @JLaw (or if he is not present, you must gradually increase speed to a maximum of 20 mph (32 kph) until you pass the 0.1 (0.16 km) point.

If anyone else wants to take part, please can you let us know here and we can work out a weight Handicap from your FTP power value or similar.

Note: New weights for @Goldwolfie @Northern Tortoise @Whorty and @theboxers

You're tempting me. I'll have to see if I've got the legs now to give it another go tonight.

If you guys are thinking of doing the Merry Harriers x3 stage again, I suggest you adjust your Handicap weight downwards (as we used higher values than your FTP originally, and I would say that the Handicap was too high)...

@Northern Tortoise - 47.5 Kg (104.72 pounds)
@Goldwolfie - 45.5 Kg (100.31 pounds)
@theboxers - 36.2 Kg (79.77 pounds)

These are using your FTP values, it will be interesting to see what difference they make.

Cheers,

Geoff
What is it they say about fooling once and twice :blink:.

I think part of the issue is the lower power readings even though the vectors are saying I am doing a similar power to my previous run up merry :cry:.

I'll give it a go, probably thurs or fri :unsure:.

As much as I'd like to go again on this, :headshake:, I think a rest day would be better for me tonight :mrpig:. I'll try to jump on as a spectator :bravo:.

Bill, I found my power figures were noticeably down with the lower weight as well. In fact, looking at when we did this climb on the chaingang bonus stage, both our average watts are down by almost exactly 40 watts. Part of this for me would have been pacing myself a bit more as I knew it was 3 times longer I had to keep going for, but I also noticed the power on the screen was showing lower than I would normally expect.

I am surprised with your fitness level that you're not doing relatively better on the hills though so I do wonder if there is some kind of set-up problem for you that is affecting your hill climbing speed/power?

I think it's a setup problem so I'm going to be trying it s lot different tonight. Actually I'm going to follow Bob's advice with the higher tyre pressure and the raised front. I'll be knackered from yesterday but hopefully do a bit better.

Bill,
On your recommendation i use the same tyre. I have had a problem with the inner tube valve not accepting air so my psi was down to 85 on saturday but got it back up to 135psi for yesterday. No tyre slippage except for a second when i spun at 140 plus cadence when i misjudged gearing relative to incline. My cyclops front wheel support does raise the front very high though throwing weight backwards. For me the tyre is pretty much best purchase for the turbo. Perhaps you have worn yours smooth from all those rides up Alp D'huez;)

Thanks for that Bob. I'm going to try similar psi to yours tonight and have the front raised to get more weight on the roller.
