Great time Bill. Soarer/ Randy. You gave me quite a surprise the way you came back at me  pleased with my effort and ave power
Decided to see how long I could stay with Bill at the start, turns out the answer was I couldn't. Then tried to stay in front of you for as long as I could which again wasn't long but it probably gave me a bit of a head start on Randy that I could just about keep. Got to say today was really hard and it took every bit of my generally very thin and weak moral fibre to keep going.

Sorry I missed the 5pm re-run @BILL S and everyone else - I was busy gardening and making up for lost time earlier in the day skiving off watching the Tour De France! So I had a second go at stage 1 and managed to shave off 45 seconds or so off my earlier time - Bill it's a shame I've missed the group rides both times for this stage as I think we could both benefit from a bit of drafting together! I the other stages are pretty flat too though so hopefully we can get that working on those.

Still got a one of those speed crashes at 8.1 miles in going from flat to 3% gradient!

Well done Paul. You've re-taken the lead by about 38 seconds:smile:. I was surprised I had beaten your time so your new quicker time is quite reassuring and I may need to have another look at that ride when the weather cools down a bit. As you say, that would be a really good ride for drafting, but I think the other stages will be the same too so hopefully we get some good drafting soon.

Just in case anyone forgot. Screenshot_2016-07-09-12-47-41.png

Edit. AAAC Yes I beat Pep but this was a software fluke. The wormhole.

You'd have stayed with me a lot longer tonight Soarer as I was just at my usual pace. Last week when we did it I think I had inadvertently taken some banned substances.

First Point - 3 of the Jerseys are now held by British Riders!
A great bit of fortune, in that Quintana decided to take a bottle at the moment of the attack and allowed a 10 bike length gap to appear. The disorganisation of the chase in the first 30 odd seconds is what gave the stage away. 80+kmh and still peddling whilst sat on the top tube . :notworthy:

And you can bet your bottom dollar he wasn't pulling anywhere close to 400 watts sat on the cross tube,

I have been looking at the Summer League Stage 1 results.
I have to hand it to Pep Tache getting such a high Watts/Kg on what is essentially a downhill stage (6.91 Watts/Kg probably higher than Alex Dowsetts 10 record of 17 minutes on the flat).
At one point, at around km 21, he is going downhill with a cadence of over 140rpm and his HR is going down.
To get your HR to go doing that sort of cadence is amazing in its self even with out pulling more watts than the UK National 10 mile TT champion does on the flat.
I hope he running the old firmware because he then peaks at over 1000 Watts in the climb.
His max HR for the session was 158 which was hard to find because it was just a small peak so he must have the heart of an ox as well

AID who bested him by a minute has a pretty steady effort throughout the stage and max's his HR at 189 bpm and his HR raise steadily throughout the stage which makes sense looking at his constant effort, I can only assume he is younger than most of us as he can hit such a high HR.

To top it off these guys are almost 10 minutes quicker than our Danish friend Jacob who at a healthy 100kg (so his Watt/Kg are not so high) should fly downhill.
Jacob, if your reading this, your HR is looking a bit dodgy at a constant 65 BPM which is what most of us climb to just putting a leg over our bike.

In summary I am going to have a hard time keeping up with the fast guys especially as I struggle keeping my cadence above 120 for sustained efforts.
Perhaps I need a Tony Martin chainring
Data analysis is part of my job, and when I see numbers like that I can't help investigate. Pep produced similar numbers last year, but appears to have upgraded his unit from Classic to Pro.
There is no doubt in my mind that Pep is a remarkable athlete, and from what I can tell, has regained the title as Catalonian Vet 1 triathlon champ here in 2016. However, the numbers we see in BKool are, in my oppinion, way off. I would rate him at a 375 Watt FTP in real life, which to be honest is stil way out of my league.
What I don't understand is why he and Bkool are not doing anything about it. There's no doubt that he knows the numbers are off himself, and he seems to be sponsered, or at least be close connected to BKool.

Yes. It is hot - in the 60s here. I'm currently in my wife's storeroom (spare bedroom) but building a bkool shed with big patio door for max air flow.
Note how big Kipster is getting. View attachment 134476 View attachment 134477

Randy, your living dangerously there by creating an empty space. The other half will soon have that filled up or try and claim it as a ' summer house'.

Being a top level triathlete may explain his ability to recover at a high cadence a triathletes do tend to spin quicker to match their running cadence.
Perhaps he has a swim machine connected up which is helping him push those big watts

I built the Mrs a summer house after she complained that she didn't have the equivalent "ladies cave" :stop: Dont go there!

5x5 metre timber frame, clad in cedar, cedar shingle roof, power, internet and underfloor heating, bloody fortune, but worth it ^_^
