Decided at about mile 9 that it was probably getting a bit annoying for you and making you work at a pace you were uncomfortable with. Interesting though that once we got a bit out you kept us pegged at a constant time.
When I was with you we were going at about 38 kph which was a bit fast for me. Every time I tried to take the front our speed would drop to 34 kph as i couldn't hold any more. I was glad in the end you guys went off as I was definitely holding you back. Once I had a rest at 32kph I pushed on a bit up to 34kph and this is when we seemed to have a constant time diff so I guess your speed eased off too. I made a bit on the hilly sections too; I was standing up and trying to sprint up those as I knew I had a bit of a rest on the other side ^_^ My target time tonight was within an hour, and I just made that so quite chuffed!

Scott, there's something different about your trainer. I was watching the Chaingang rerun and noticed that you needed about 285 watt to go 50 kph at the flat part. Bob and Bill needed to put out about 350 watt to achieve the same speed.

We did some test earlier, and found that we all did about 21.8 mph (35 kph) at 200 watt.

Try and find a completely flat session and hold it at 200 watt (I have one here: http://www.bkool.com/profile/detail/735556?durationType=DISTANCE&lapCount=1)
and remember not to allow bots and ghosts (in the BSim session setup) as the drafing will obscure the result.

What SW and FW version do you have?

My weight is now set at 75 kilos:okay:
I think I may just leave it there for the handicap races as penance for my weight assisted chaingang rides:angel:
^_^

Sounds like a plan Bob. However, I did already apply a 3 minute penalty to your result yesterday. I think it was actually about 1 minute quicker than Thursdays time..

There's definitely something different about Scott's trainer's speed and power readings. The question is, is the power reading too low or the speed reading too high? Geoff & AAAC have often said that it's the speed that drives the power, with the power just being a function of the speed, weight and slope gradient.

Berty. Sounds like you could be a leading authority on trainer calibration. Maybe you should get in touch with bkool and give them a few pointers.^_^
i was employed by them as qc but i was dismissed for being too thorough :okay:

just tried an extreme course for few seconds !! could hardly turn pedals so the machine is working ! what can i say - keebabs and ibruprofen seem a short term solution
I am definitely not getting a pro or any other trainer that can simulate a proper 6+% for my current weight. Most chaingang rides would take me twice as long and hurt 4 times as much . My classic on it current fw kicks my backside enough upto 6% why go any harder :surrender:.

I've just checked the scheduling for the chaingang rides. I am in two minds about what I have found . The finish date for stage 3 is the 29th. That means there is no excuse for not doing it. But owing to my on call this week I am going to be a bit time cramped fitting it in as well as the other rides . I think I need to MTFU and just get them done where I can .

Well, the speed is what it is, and the power is just calculated from the speed. Weight shouldn't matter on a flat section with constant speed.
What I don't get is how the watt/speed ratio could be different. If I use my BePros, then It will calculate a speed of 21.8 mph at 200 watt. If I use BKool speed It will calculate an ouput of 200 watt at 21.8 mph. So it's the same algorithm used both ways.
The question is what triggers his trainer to use a different algorithm?

Agreed it's probably a different algorithm so could be F/W S/W and lets face it, the differences were a huge problem in the Summer Cup this year. Weight does seem to make a significant difference though as proved by Bob on his recent two runs.

I like that. Can I have my 3 mins back please Bill;)

Ok I agree to a 3 minute credit against your next chaingang ride. You will have to start when the countdown is at three minutes so you get a head start on the rest of us. Hope that's satisfactory.
