Well tonight's chaingang stage has a lot of downhill so we should have an unofficial competition to see who can get the fastest top speed! The speed to beat currently, as far as I can see is Kipster's 69.4KPH.....
But I come in at 75kg on Bkool (hovering at 73kg in reality but haven't updated Bkool) so the more powerful and or substantial specimens should beat that easily.

After that session last night i did some intervals in a velodrome and hit 76.8kph, I was happy with that.

Hoping to be there, whilst rummaging around for 80T crank. Oh well, 50T is going to have to do:sad:

We all talk about larger front chainrings but does anyone know whether there has been any experiments in wheel size to increase rolling speed just as mtb have gone from 26 to 29 and back to 27.5? Just a thought...

Did you know you can very easily amend the weight from within the Sim now?

Which reminds me - I must definitely check mine's still not set to 60kgs before tonight's ride!

I have 2 MTB, one is 29er, the other 27.5. They have same top end gearing, yes the 29er is faster, unless your natural cadence is very high with lower effort.

It would be interesting to see what a wheelset 20% bigger on a racing bike could cruise at. With modern technology the weight increase would be minimal.

Not sure wheel size as such would make much difference on a turbo trainer. The claimed speed differences for mountain bike wheels are mostly due to rolling resistance on uneven terrain - obviously not an issue on the trainer

completely agree - at one point I was on a 12% incline (bkool blue speed was reading 4mph v garmin speed sensor 8mph)

At my weight & fitness (??? but lets just say heavier rider) 9% incline and upwards went blue.
This is what my trainer (an original white classic, pre bkool firmware update) used to do. Anything above 5 or 6% and I'd get blue speed numbers reading below my edge values, sometimes down to 1.3mph .

Now I only get blue numbers if I am going faster than they expect and even then it is only 0.2-0.4 mph above my edge readings .

I prefer this firmware, as I can at least have a reasonable expectation of finishing a goat ride in less than 2 hours :surrender:.

So - assuming you're racing and want to maximise your speed on a route - if your speed goes blue when going uphill, you may as well back off until it goes white again as your're wasting your energy?? Is that right?

With blue numbers going downhill you can pedal faster than the blue speed and go even faster (ifyou can pedal fast enough!), but presumably with uphill blues there's nothing you can do to increase your speed over the blue speed?

When I get blue on the uphill, by increasing cadence you get a higher calculated speed accordingly so it is worth pushing harder. I still pile in the power as much as I can without passing out (although I have been close to it on more than one occasion!)

Three Alpe d'Huez sessions, one pre firmware update, one post update and one .

One very much gaming the system, for me, with the saw tooth on/off. Post fw update.

None were easy for me. But you can see the result of update, in not knocking me back down to a calculated speed, on the second session with an alomost 1 hour improvement :wahhey: .
