You and I were two of only about 4 or 5 that turned up in shorts weren't we Bill? But actually, legs were working hard enough to keep warm, it was just those extremities. Hope those hands heal up soon fella, it was tough to tell what was hurting at the time, as everything was numb with cold, but not sure how you managed to keep hold of the bars tbh.
Did 12 miles with the kids yesterday, on the flat, that was enough, but my bike is at the shop now, getting a new hanger fitted, and my shifters adjusted after their tweak.
Will try a local specialist outdoor clothing shop for the jacket, it's not a big tear, so sure a solution will present itself.
And Bill, I can honestly say it was a pleasure to meet you, and watch you disappear into the horizon in real life, just as you do on the BKool. I hope we do make it happen again, I would like that, especially as the Double Devil and I have unfinished business!
Yup! we were dressed like it was a nice spring day. And that was nuts in those conditions. As you say though, it was no problem for the legs but the extremities was a problem. I found that cold rainy wind pretty sore on the face as well up on top of those exposed parts. My hands and feet just ended up numb though so very hard to hold onto the bars. In fact I could hardly feel that I was holding on and was struggling to change gear as my fingers had stopped working. All in all, quite dangerous to ride like that on the few busy roads we were on, but you don't really think about it at the time. Ah well Adam, there's always next year for us to get it right with the gear and strategy. I always find that part of the fun of these things.
