You and I were two of only about 4 or 5 that turned up in shorts weren't we Bill? But actually, legs were working hard enough to keep warm, it was just those extremities. Hope those hands heal up soon fella, it was tough to tell what was hurting at the time, as everything was numb with cold, but not sure how you managed to keep hold of the bars tbh.
Did 12 miles with the kids yesterday, on the flat, that was enough, but my bike is at the shop now, getting a new hanger fitted, and my shifters adjusted after their tweak.
Will try a local specialist outdoor clothing shop for the jacket, it's not a big tear, so sure a solution will present itself.
And Bill, I can honestly say it was a pleasure to meet you, and watch you disappear into the horizon in real life, just as you do on the BKool. I hope we do make it happen again, I would like that, especially as the Double Devil and I have unfinished business!

Yup! we were dressed like it was a nice spring day. And that was nuts in those conditions. As you say though, it was no problem for the legs but the extremities was a problem. I found that cold rainy wind pretty sore on the face as well up on top of those exposed parts. My hands and feet just ended up numb though so very hard to hold onto the bars. In fact I could hardly feel that I was holding on and was struggling to change gear as my fingers had stopped working. All in all, quite dangerous to ride like that on the few busy roads we were on, but you don't really think about it at the time. Ah well Adam, there's always next year for us to get it right with the gear and strategy. I always find that part of the fun of these things.

That's sounds just brutal. Congratulations with the fantastic result.:notworthy:
Really makes me feel like a sissy for contemplating to skip the first race of the race-series, because the weather forecast is promising a little rain.:shy:
You just inspired me to drop that thought...Thanks.
Thanks LB. It was indeed brutal. Make sure you keep us posted about your racing antics. I'd like to try a race series but sometime I think I'm just a little bit to lazy to get my act together. Maybe next year ;).

Im still up for the weekly mountain goat Bill . I've been sick with the flu for nearly 3 weeks and have had to build up the base miles again first, but that is all behind me now.
i will be getting back to the weekly Wednesday morning mountain climb this week actually. Otherwise just do a challenge if you don't feel like setting the league up during the summer, and Ill pick some climbs for us
June I will be off though as I've got two 70.3 ironman events to deal with that month.

I'd quite like to get back to that too Darryn I have no problem setting up a league but I'd quite like someone else o pick the rides for a change. I'm sure there might be one or two more goats up for it.

I will try to join in a few when I am mended. My leg has blown up like a balloon, and is sore as hell. But all that is irrelevant, as the LBS only charged me a tenner to fix my bike. All good.
If they run it next year, I definately think we should do it. But how about we just sign up at pre-registration, so we can gauge the weather?

How fast were you going when you crashed? And you finished the race! You are the ultimate competitor. Re-riding a goat climb for one second is nothing compared to riding 40 some miles Injured. When the situation calls for it I think ill start saying " I'm gonna open a can of whoop Add. "

Lol, I was going quite fast, about 20mph'ish, but it wasn't massive impact. Pilot error mainly, braking too late into a wet, loose gravelly corner, and my bike just slid away from under me. Landed smack on my hip bone, which is the swelling, and some nice gravel rash, which didn't rip my shorts by some miracle, but cut my leg underneath?!?
Luckily there was a food stop about 3.5 miles on down the road, so I limped onto there, feeling very sorry for myself, and racking my brain for a suitable excuse. Had every intention of quitting once I arrived.
After 30 minutes, a hot cup of tea, open fire and some fantastic pork pie, I had manned up enough to decide to at least complete the 82 mile route. About 12-15 other riders were also downscaling due to the conditions.
I waited for my wife, and when she got to the stop, I rode home with her. Glad I did, as I never ride with her, as our 'styles' are just so incompatible, she appreciated it, and at least I got to finish.
There were still some very rude hills to greet us mind you, which I could have done without.
