Lars,
Congratulations on a strong race.It sounds like the second half pace must have been really fast if you averaged over 22 mph after a slow start. I just looked at the google English translation of the ullerod website and it didn't have results yet. I hope you have another award to go with your cycle chat chain gang trophy.

As it turnes out, the group that joined us was not another group but rather the main part or a team that decided to exploid a glitch in the timing system. They started 3 minutes later than us, along with a group that registered for a slower ride. Apperently they figured that they would make a fast team ride and win because they could just run full power without any one interfering (and knowing), and rely on having a faster time. Because of the slow start they cathed us before the finish.
This was one of only two sportives this year that I registered for, mainly because it was right in my backyard. People is simply getting to carried away, and things tend to get dangerous. This time it was not dangerous, but the tactics by this team just emphasizing how desparate people are getting. And how low was it that one of the team members told us that they were another group???

I was in the 50 km 35-40 km/t (Lars Brandt)

I look forward to the main races of the year, which is a series of none-public races on a semi closed circuit, where we have the right lane of the road to our self. It's a series with riders just below the A-teams (cat. 1 ?), right downto beginners. I'm in group 2...guess that would by something like cat. 3.

Huge congratulations to Bill. He came second in the 126 mile Double Devil challenge, here in mid Wales. Extremely vicious conditions, with strong winds, driving rain and seriously cold. How he managed to stay so strong for so long is beyond me. Job well done Bill. How's the hands?

Wow. One badass mountain goat. Did you ride Add?
Yeah, but I bloody came off about 45 miles in. Leg was aching, so I downsized to the 82 mile route. That was bad enough. To be honest, Bill left me for dead inside of the first 4 miles, the man is a cycling machine. Oh and ask him what he thinks of the Devils Staircase!

Any thoughts on Castelli repair services. Nothing of any worth cropping up on Google. Only had the dam jersey a week. First outing I rip the elbow, most vexing.

Thanks very much Adam. I had an amazing weekend thanks to you and your brilliant hospitality. The race supplied me with more than enough pain and suffering to make me want to do it again, and I hope we will next year. My hands still hardly work and I apparently have nerve compression damage that should repair itself in a month or two. I can just about manage most things but tying my laces is a struggle .
Much congratulations to you too Adam for completing your ride in those conditions and after falling off. I might have just given up if it were me. You might not have been far behind me if you'd not fallen off as you paced yourself better, while I was just getting slower and slower. Much Kudos to Mary too. Very impressive indeed that she took on the challenge, completed it, and looked like she'd just been for a ride round the block.
I reckon my bike or riding position need some changes before another ride like that though. I reckon those tri bars might be my next purchase.
As for the Devils Staircase, that's the steepest road I've ever ridden up. If it were any steeper I would just wheely over the back. So glad I got that new cassette to cope with it. Nothing on bkool quite gets you ready for that one.
Might be worth trying a local clothing repair & alteration shop to see if they can make a decent repair on your Castelli.
Anyway Adam. Thanks a million for an unforgettable weekend and looking after me at your place. Massive thank you to Mary too.

I'm thinking you did something to make the cycling gods unhappy. Wasn't your 24 hour Strathpuffer race done in a snow storm?

That's quite a memory you have Randy. Even I'd forgotten that. I can't make my mind up what was tougher though. The Strathpuffer was a whole lot warmer and drier with all the gear I was wearing.

You and I were two of only about 4 or 5 that turned up in shorts weren't we Bill? But actually, legs were working hard enough to keep warm, it was just those extremities. Hope those hands heal up soon fella, it was tough to tell what was hurting at the time, as everything was numb with cold, but not sure how you managed to keep hold of the bars tbh.
Did 12 miles with the kids yesterday, on the flat, that was enough, but my bike is at the shop now, getting a new hanger fitted, and my shifters adjusted after their tweak.
Will try a local specialist outdoor clothing shop for the jacket, it's not a big tear, so sure a solution will present itself.
And Bill, I can honestly say it was a pleasure to meet you, and watch you disappear into the horizon in real life, just as you do on the BKool. I hope we do make it happen again, I would like that, especially as the Double Devil and I have unfinished business!

That's sounds just brutal. Congratulations with the fantastic result.:notworthy:
Really makes me feel like a sissy for contemplating to skip the first race of the race-series, because the weather forecast is promising a little rain.:shy:
You just inspired me to drop that thought...Thanks.

Thanks Lars. We had some excellent races. However, I think we still have one race left. I have a mega ride on Saturday so won't be able to put in any effort on Thursday. If anyone wants to partake though, I'll be happy to start it off then cruise to the end without too much effort. If you're in it Lars You'll be taking the Chain Gang win, if not it's someone else's chance to take the stage win. Kip?

The big question is what next for the Chain Gag and the Mountain Goats? Does anyone want to continue? Or just continue with one of them? Mountain Goats has stagnated completely I think so if anyone's up for it we could continue the Chain Gang and perhaps restart the goats later in the year when turbo season starts again.
What does everyone think?

Im still up for the weekly mountain goat Bill . I've been sick with the flu for nearly 3 weeks and have had to build up the base miles again first, but that is all behind me now.
i will be getting back to the weekly Wednesday morning mountain climb this week actually. Otherwise just do a challenge if you don't feel like setting the league up during the summer, and Ill pick some climbs for us
June I will be off though as I've got two 70.3 ironman events to deal with that month.
