So is there a better option? The special zed looks like a speed machine but not for hills? That said, I don‘t think I’ve ever tried 34-34. But I have 36-32 as the lowest on my current bike, and I know I struggle going above 10%.

Hit by a car, while riding his bike, back in spring this year. Now paralyzed from the waist down.
Both my good bikes, the new tandem and my wife's solo are cannondales. They are all excellent. My solos are both synapse and if, in my dreams, i got a new bike it would be another synapse. They are incredibly comfortable whilst still being pretty fast when you put the power down. Of the bikes on offer, not just for the gearing which is probably more generous than you need, but better that way than the opposite, but also because of the comfort factor on a bike you haven't ridden before, the synapse, IMHO is by far the best option.See you there, gotta chose my bike from these View attachment 553462
Bkool's usual lack of information and completeness strikes again. I can't find the Canaries route for today and there appears to be another live event at 18:00 today with a triathlete in the Basque country. I'll get on at about 17:55 and if anybody wants to join in a leisurely warm up event before the handicap race we can decide among us what we are going to do depending on what's available. The canaries is till my preferred option if it happens.Yes 6 PM for us, 5 PM UK
Don't think there is 1 this week

Hmm... We'll see what it is, but I suspect it is something uphill...
EDIT: I looks like it is the Zumaia - Donosti route, which is 32km. I will be hard pressed to finish that within 55 minutes and be able to perform in the handicap afterwards.

Wow, another 55km would've definitely finished me even on this fairly flat course. I'm definitely game for a 100 miler next year though but I'll need more than 40mins on Bkool every nightI did a flat 100 mile sportive the other year and managed about 19mph. Really enjoyed it bit haven't managed to get on any others since. There are loads up north, mainly hilly ones.
. Getting used to that hilly terrain will pay big dividends in the Canaries, that's going to be awesome.

If we'd gone past the rest stops
Glad you had fun and yes unfortunately once you start and have data it starts getting very competitive with yourself. Unfortunately covid postponed all but one (the first) of the ones I had planned this year. However, as I may have posted (but forgive me, I need some motivation for tonight's handicap) I did manage to win it! Only 130 kms but an average speed of 32.4 kph or 20.25 mph and with 2200m of climbing. I never stop at the feed stations, two bottles is always more than enough (part of the training regime) with 3 bars some dried fruit and a gel just in case. Next year I've been promised protected status with my club mates riding for me!Did my first 'sportive' on Sunday and the results finally got published today, bit wet but really enjoyed it. I parked next to someone else doing it and got chatting before the ride and he said he's aiming for 19mph, I said that's a bit rich for me but a great target. This guy had a really nice bike, a Raleigh with aero bars and some hand-built wheels, Di2 and oval chain-wheels (he had an Audi RS6 V10 to go with it too, bit of a theme!). Due to social distancing etc. we set off in spaced groups of 6 as we arrived (we'd all been emailed a time to arrive) and we by chance got grouped together. So I hung onto him and then by the first stop we'd picked up a couple of others and had a really good team. One of the guys went down on a fast wet corner 4km from the end (hence the slow finish) and we killed 30mins at the rest stops but still managed 67th out of 350+ which I'm really happy about. If we'd gone past the rest stops we'd have been less than 30mins off the leader. Really happy with that. ...and for once I was quickest on all the hills! (evened out all their fancy tights and aero gear).
Great fun, thanks for the training, I can honestly say I've trained 90%+ on Bkool. Sadly I feel that's the first and last fun one - there's now stats and numbers to beat.
