Just challenged Skovsgaard in "Truleigh Hill" and it was a dose of dejavu. I was in front of him before the steepest section of the climb, but he just flew past me and ended up gained a minute on me at the top of the climb. I'm wondering if perhaps the problem is on mine side. I really feel like I'm pushing +400 watts on the steep sections, but what I see on the screen is considerable less. What if I have micro slippage because I'm not as heavy as Skovsgaard. I think I will try to put some extra weight on the bike next time, and see if I get more watts on the steep sections.
Same dejavu for me too. Exact same place as you but he took more like 2 minutes out of me. I was about 10 seconds behind him at the start of that hill. What you're suggesting would be worth a try and would at least prove one way or another. To me it feels like he is somehow able to carry momentum up the hill without it slowing him down as much as it does to us.

Hi all, Just got myself a Bkool ... any chance I can join the group?

Welcome Bonno.

If you want to join the chain gang or the mountain goats just request to join those groups. We're mostly all members of those and the leagues will start soon.

Weights always going to be an issue for me I feel. 6 foot and skinny boned but just seem to hold on to a bit too much muscle mass compared to 'real' cyclists. I'm not big in any way but just compared to other cyclists I'm heavy! I'm really not sure how I can ever get below 13 stone!

More power it is then :bicycle::bicycle::bicycle::bicycle::bicycle::bicycle::bicycle::bicycle::bicycle::bicycle:

All this talk about weight makes me wonder if the trainer is set up for an optimum weight on the flywheel. Perhaps there is a weight that, taking into account differences in tyres and psi, place sufficient , err, weight, to minimise or even prevent slippage. Allowing for maximum power. Perhaps this ties in with the apparent discrepancies in weight/power other have noticed? I am not at all sciency so i have no idea if what i am saying is bollux or not ^_^

I think the optimum weight/tyre pressure will depend very much on the gradients of the ride.
If riding up a steep gradient the friction between the roller and the tyre will be low and therefore a lower tyre pressure or more weight on the tyre would be beneficial to the power/torque that can be transmitted from the tyre to the roller without slipping.
When riding fast there is far less torque transmitted from the tyre to the roller but friction is high. What you then need is less weight acting on the tyre to reduce the friction further and as high a tyre pressure as possible.
I have never done this but I think the solution could be to take a look at the ride gradient and set tyre pressure accordingly. Long steep hills will require lower tyre pressure. Perhaps 80 - 100 PSI. Long downhill or flat sections - Pressure up as high as it'll go.

Ok Rick!!

Tell us. How did you do it??? :cursing::cursing::cursing:

I never thought I'd see the day that I'd beat Bill to the line. That's the most exhausted I've been yet getting off the bike. Felt a slight sicky feeling for a good while afterwards. xx(

I seem to carry more momentum in certain areas. The slight downhills and flats suit me. Had to dig real deep on the hill - if it had got any steeper I was goosed. You'd got a few seconds on me at one point but a flatter section and slight downhill allowed me to get the momentum to claw back again.

No doubt I'll get the email to say I've been challenged and beaten within the next day or two. Lol

^_^ Well I won't rule that out completely, but I'm bkoolless at the moment. And I do seem to remember I already gave it everything the first time.:heat:

But with Lars pulling away at least a minute per stage :cycle:, I need to try and find something from somewhere.

Hello everyone another new Bkool user and loving it so far. Applied to join cyclechat chain gang how long does it take to be accepted?

Whoa, you almost got me too.:notworthy:
I think Bill and I will soon be trying to hold your wheel if you continue your watt gains at this rate.

I saw you mentioned drafting. Isn't this only possible in live races?
Because of my problematic starts in the live events, I have yet to experience drafting.
When I do my velodrome warm ups, I feel something that could be drafting as I near a ghost, but I seem to get the most efficient draft just after I passed the ghost.

Na, my gains have levelled off for a while now. That course just really seemed to suit me.

Drafting: definitely got some benefit at times yesterday with Bills ghost though it's very hard to get. When you're clawing up behind someone and then pushing on past them the drafting effect gives a bit of a slingshot effect to boost you ahead of them.

So I started using strava and linked it to my Bkool rides, but strava is now linking my run files from Polar that also upload to strava back to Bkool and making 3d rides out of them, is that the purpose, or am I missing something here?
I assume I need to turn something on (or off) in strava?
