On the subject of kit, I don't get on with bibs. I have a couple of pairs but find it painful to stand up straight in them plus the additional material makes them uncomfortable in summer.
My solution to the potential gap problem is to use gents clip on braces with waist shorts. Not an original idea, it's what Eddy Merckx did.
I should confess that as an elderly gentleman I'm not very bendy and the Wiggo flat back is not a possibility for me, so the jersey/waistband gap is unlikely to trouble me.
Finally, chapeau to the Gabba jacket. The best bit of kit I've ever bought and the thing that keeps me riding through the winter.
That's what we all did before bibs, isn't it?.
My first shorts were Madison Track shorts made from Merino with a chamois pad of course.
I chose the Madisons as being a skinny git I thought it might add some bulk to my thighs but only I probably thought that.
For TT's to get aero I would tuck my shirt into my shorts and wear the braces over my shirt which also helped stop my top flapping in the wind.
Other than that aero meant slaming your TTT Bar Stem as far into the forks that it would go and ride with your chin as close to the bars a possible.
Alfie 'The King' did a lot of bike modding for TT's but mine was limited to removing the front changer for TT's and fitting a 54T chainring to go with my straight 13/18 six speed block.
That got me back to thinking that the only thing missing from the 10 mile Tin Can TT, which is so similar to my old club 10 miler, is a dead turn at 5 miles on an 'A' road.
I'm sure they wouldn't let you do that now!
