What you doing Bill? More mind games?
I have got most of my PR's up hill on a track bike, fixed wheel 50x15. No option other than to nail it at the bottom and just keep going.I used to go out looking for very severe (1:4) climbs in the North Downs in my early days and that would have been on a 54/42 with a 13/18 straight thru block.
The only tactic you had left when the speed fell to walking pace was to tack up the hill.
A kind of on bike weight training I suppose.
It did serve to make the more 'shallow' climbs easier.
Back then though I was not aware of either the on/off or extreme power into climb techniques as this would have made all of these efforts a peice of cake.

Type Bill in the filter and you will find itI can't find the ride. Anyone else?

I use my winter bike/commuter/dogsbody on the turbo for the hills because it's got a compact and 12/32 so 34/32. I regularly use my summer bike for the flat rides, for the 53/11. Don't worry about using your good bike, it's not going to hurt it. I just throw a towel over the top tube and bars to keep the sweat off everything...it's amazing how corrosive it is!
As for the next handicap I may have to change bikes half way through! Well the pro's do it in hilly TTs![]()
You could buy a cheap back clincher wheel with the right gearing for it, the weight wouldn't matterIt's not just the bike but the rims too. They're tubs and I don't really want to wear them out on the turbo.
