Went out for a ride in the real world today with a few other guys, first time since about October, and thanks to Bkool and you guys keeping me going over the winter it was a fairly pain free and easy 50 miles , although I did miss not seeing the profile of the hills coming up ^_^
Real test in 2 weeks when i do my first Time Trial of the year ..a hilly 18 miles with 2 climbs of the local 'big hill'

Oh and I'm with Soarerv8 ... can't beat a healthy blast of AC/DC (double Live album) to get the blood pumping :okay:

Gail on top?? Didn't think I'd be hearing those words any time soon!
Sorry about that - no wonder Google serves me those sultry ads...whoops probably just doubled the dose there by saying "sultry"...... Damn, did it again :banghead:.
Well, I'll probably continue to make a fool of myself again and again, and you're welcome to laugh at me every time. Don't worry, I can take it .

As I sit here idly on a Sunday morning being punished with trying to get son no 3 to do his homework my mind drifted to wondering what effect music has whilst cycling.

Normally in a futile attempt to expand my pea like mind I listen to TED pod casts whilst ambling away in the garage. Sometimes though I stick a bit of classic rock on and I do think I pedal faster. Is it just that I am easily led or is this a common phenomenon (and even when I type that word in my head I follow it up with doo doo dee doo doo)
AC/DC, Foo Fighters and Sneakers (an 80s danish band) works for me.

I'm not so sure it would be ever increasing Randy. I'm rather tired after a tough week so mostly just want to put in the ride. Anyway, Stig just did it at 60% effort so I should be able to better that. Anyone not doing it will get Stigs time +5% :cycle:

I decided to give Saler another shot instead. Just under 51 mins so happy with that. Initially I set it up with you Bill but realised too soul destroying to have to chase your ever receding ghost so chosenRick and Rouler1 instead. Held Rick off till the climb than bang he was gone. I had to watch behind as the minutes ticked away, my poor legs struggled to turn the pedals and Rouleur go ever close. I have to say a guy called jonnie joined the ride and was some 13 min in front of my time. Not showing in the standings for some reason.

Good grief, drum and bass from Alfie and dance music from Breedon what on earth is going on here? Did the population of cyclechat suddenly get cool whilst my back was turned? Adam or Goldwolfie please return some decorum to this forum and let me know that you listen to the Brighouse and Rastrick brass band whilst pedalling!

I"ve just done a re-run of tthis week's Chaingang ride after my puncture on Thursday night..

That was lonely and tough, but I had an endless loop of 'I Must Be Mad' by The Craig, a Brummie band from the 60s - my era that is.

Cooled down with about 10 seconds of 'Shattered' by The Rolling Stones.

Then I climbed off and had a cuppa, and as it's Sunday I'll be getting the tin bath out in front of the fire for the weekly scrub.

Nothing too modern in our house.

Well that Oviedo Ciclismo turned out to be rather interesting. I had completely forgotten the profile of it from when I first picked it, and it consists of 3 ups and 4 downhills and lots of jagged saw teeth.
You really will be hoping you have a pro rather than a classic for this one as it's like the one AAAC was talking about recently where the pro's are flying up the hills after massive slingshotting. Anyway, far less painful than you'd think for such a long mountan goat ride. Rather high average speed

I've just published the March Handicap League, ready for Tuesday.

Start with a third run of the Tin Can Ten Time Trial, now we've got the handicaps just about spot on.

Then I put in three runs of an old favourite from last winter, the Vuelta 2012 E15, which was originally chosen as it has no descents or climbs above 6%, so it gave me a chance on the KICKR! Adam and Bill still beat me, but only by seconds...:cursing:

Should be a change with a steady climb, but not too steep. Finish times from 28-41 minutes. If anyone wants a run at it to get an initial handicap it's here ...

http://www.bkool.com/classification/showIndividualStageClassification/3436

Then finish the (5 week) month off with another run of Kipsters Kalamity!

Cheers,

Geoff

P.S. Regarding music, I found a Muse playlist got me up Ventoux several times! Ideal for keeping your mind off the pain of the long Mountain Goat climbs. :banghead:

Bob, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a league ride that you did. I've never really tried this, but if you had set it up with say the top 10 ghosts you'd have options to go with a drafting group and move forward or back depending how it went. It's been ages since I've tried a chaingang with ghosts as I've always done the Thursday and Saturday rerun. I can't even remember if the ghosts work for drafting or not. Did you get any drafting benefit from them?

Darn. I still haven't got the hang of the software. I leave it to you techs! Can you add the ride? It's a decent time with very little drafting all on my lonesome  I set it up with 6 ghosts and 6 bots. The bot s were active 2 or 3 but I never saw them. I should have set up more ghosts. I seemed to get a draft off Rick but to be honest my plan was to stay away from him for as long as possible. Tricky, coz I had no time other t Han usual 10 mins to warm up so had to keep within myself for 1st 20 mins. Rick had over a minute by then so I wound it up to catch and then drafted a bit to recover before pulling away. But yes, drafting does seem possible with ghosts. BUT, it's nowhere near as much fun as riding with humans. Still, if I am right about drafting then yes, options to set up and take advantage depending on how good you are on the ride.
