FTP is functional threshold power. It is the theoretical maximum power you can sustain for an hour. It is a good indication of your fitness and can be used to structure your training. Google it, if you want to improve. There is loads written on the subject.
Thanks I did have a Google and read but just wanted to know what it was in relation to Bkool in particular

That's the 2nd puncture I heard recently in here. When I bought my trainer I didn't think I would be sitting on the side of a virtual road repairing a puncture!

Yes FTP is the number you want. Bkool Fitness level is just a number telling you how good you are uphill.

Actually I guess it makes some sense, when I took the tyre off a sharp tiny little bit of stone that must have been in there from using it on the road had pushed its way through. I suspect having my huge mass forcing it down onto the trainer didn't help!

I have now picked out all the little bits of road rubbish I can find so if I get any more punctures I am going to suspect foul play.

All this talk of maximum HR etc. just makes me wonder...

At 87Kg, and 59 years, my 'performance' is inevitably in decline (certainly in some respects, I'm sure ) but a theoretical maximum HR of 220-age = 161 is pure bunkum! Exactly what it is I don't know, but I'm not rushing to find out either, just in case.

As for BKOOL and the results it returns, I do wonder whether something is not quite right, and it certainly isn't very helpful.

Tonight's ride returned steady 'as expected' results...until, 'uphill', cadence just dropped through the floor - 28-45rpm - despite my cadence not substantially changing.

This must impact on all of the other results, surely, returned by the BKOOL.

Anyone have any ideas? Experienced similar? Am I doing something wrong?

The inbuilt cadence sensor of the pro is unreliable on hills. If you want accurate you need an ant+ one.

Anyone ever thrown up when on bkool?
Well I did this afternoon. Not a lot but enough. I know Sir Chris Hoy and others train to the point where they might and have thrown up but this was hardly in that ball park. I MTFU though and after a very brief recovery kept going. No stomach bug or anything. And hours since I had eaten. Just the effect of forearms on handlebar and so being crunched quite low for an extended period. Something had to give. Sometimes it's a little bit of, err, wind, but this time a bit of puke!

Not managed it yet on the Bkool but I was doing the coast to coast a few years ago and passed what appeared to be an Australian hen party cycling up it too. Realised quite quickly that by trying to impress them with my speed I had overdone it and ended up having to pull over to throw up the large breakfast I had just consumed. This was made all the worse by the fact they then pedalled past me laughing on what I realised at that point were electric bikes.

xx(

Now that's dedication!! ^_^

..and no I haven't reached that point yet, though I did throw up after a heavy weights session when I was about 20. On bkool I just feel completely empty and lightheaded sometimes but only mildly and then feel OK after being off the bike a handful of minutes.

It is a commen thing being sick during sport . It can be the first sign of deyidration . Or Even drinking to much ( Or to fast ) before And during Training . Or Even Food shortly before Training . I seen this Happen a Lot in my days in the Army . http://m.wikihow.com/Prevent-Throwing-up-when-Exercising

I was consistently able to get league rides with ghosts (including non league riders) last time through. I'll make a point to document how I did it next time I figure it out again. It's far from obvious.
So here's how I was able to get ghosts for the mountain goats league.

1. Go to the league's page where stages are listed. Each active stage should have a "copy" link in its upper right corner. It shows up in blue in my browser. Click on the link to create a league copy of the stage. Do not click the larger blue emblem on the lower right corner. That link will create a league ride you can't modify. I have *no* idea why they're different, just that they are are.

2. Head to your scheduled sessions and find the ride. Note that you may have more than one in your scheduled sessions. You have to find the one you just created. In theory it'll be near the top of the list of your scheduled rides since the "copy" link will schedule one for the current date.

3. Add ghosts & bots and hit the "Edit" button. You can also remove the splits that resync your ride somehow ultimately resulting in a shorter ride than expected, then some kind of adjustment from bkool after the ride is complete.

4. Ride

Now what's damn strange is this works for the mountain goats league, but it doesn't seem to be working for the mountain moose league. I don't know if it's a function of the way the leagues/groups are set up or a function of the ride itself. The leagues share a couple rides, so I'll be able to test if it's the ride or the league tomorrow when City Creek opens up for the goats.
