Thanks Guy, that's an interesting article - particularly the point that we are only circa 20% efficient, so when putting 300w through the cranks, we're actually pumping out the heat equivalent of a 1000w heater!

I recently bought a 20" high velocity fan and it has made a huge difference, in comfort at least - can't say I've actually noticed an increase in power (although I haven't re-done any of the routes I did before I had it yet), but I no longer clamber off the bike completely drenched with a puddle of sweat on the floor!

yeah but you have also been riding more than the rest of us, certainly me and i reckon your HR is also a reflection of improving fitness. Well done!
Thank you ^_^

But, my HR avg has been going up because I can put out power better with stronger heart. I would strugle on a 120 avg when I got back on the bike, now 135 is an almost every ride avg if I want to push hard enough and on some of the harder league rides 142+. I have seen an increase in cadence at max resistance. I would struggle @45rpm up a > 6% slope, now I can do 65-70. Still not spinning but going in the right direction :bicycle:

My resting heart rate on the other hand has gone almost through the floor. It used to be, give or take, a 70-75 RHR (when I took it with a hr strap at the start of this lunacy). Over the last 5 days I have tracked, with my new toy a garmin fr235, a RHR avg of 46, from 43 to 51

Getting fitter, yes. Feeling fitter, sometimes after a session I'm not too sure

Hi All,

Got my classic all setup and running with fe-c (tested on swift). Want to use with book to train using videos.

The trainer is picked up and outputs watts on the screen but the book itself isn't on the list of trainer to select, does anyone know which trainer to select to get an accurate power curve?

Thanks

43 bpm haha went to A&E once suffering from chest pains and such like hooked me up to a monitor it was at 39-40 they thought the machine was broke and used another one still the same lol

Ha!
family got me a fitbit surge for birthday and i am obsessed with my resting bpm. 47 at weekends and 49-51 on work days. I awake worried before work! 39-40 though....

Problem is if you saw me atm you would query that number. Not quite R101, but the tractor tyre doesn't help :-(

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread for this so apologies in advance. Given the recent UK weather I've invested in an Elite Turbo Muin Smart B+ The Smart is a bit of a misnomer as it isn't smart in the sense that it's resistance can be remotely controlled. I chose it over other trainers in the price brand because it's direct drive and to my mind better replicates on road feel and like the idea that I can use it stand alone with no need to even plug it into a power socket.

However I appreciate the biggest potential issue with using any turbo is the potential mind numbingly boringness of spinning away on the road to nowhere so enter stage left Bkool and or Zwift and I've signed up for a trial on both.

I "get it" that on a dumb trainer all either programme can do is adjustment my in programme speed to my power input/cadence and I'm fine with that but other than not being eligible for leagues or whatever am I really missing out on anything else of significance ?

You are meant to take a RHR when you wake up lying in bed. If I was to try that I'd just turn over a go back to sleep

Btw hello Bob, goodbye Bob. About 2 seconds I lasted on your wheel :bicycle::bicycle:. Then you were gone :rofl: :surrender:

edit: Just worked out it was a bob ghost that shot off from me

Not one of my best sessions, no lungs this time, couldn't breath
