On the downhills I can hit 70, very occasionally, 72-3 but then speed falls rapidly to 60-65 but only if I pedal like a maniac. When I take a rest speed falls really quickly except on gradients over 4%. If I am not careful the speed drop is such that the ride comes to a halt because bkool thinks I want to stop. I have to remember to turn the pedals even when collapsed over the handlebars gasping for breath. Happened at least twice on the last chain gang. I have settled into a sprinting routine on the flat and up hills of up to 3% and similarly so on the down hills. I just try to keep the speed up until I am spent and need to coast and then start over. I wish I had the lungs and the power to ride a steady sustained pace but I think commuting, chasing down riders in front of me has led to my inelegant approach.

Chaingang stage 4 done, but it wont upload, anyone else having any upload issues this evening?

Only change I have made is an upgrade to Windows 10, but cant imagine that has caused a problem??

LIVING THE DREAM
I think I can reach 150 rpm on the turbo, but I wouldn't try in the real world. In real life races I have reached 70 kph with a compact crank, but this is about the limit as it tends to affect stability. And stability is a really bad thing to sacrifice when riding in a peloton.
On the turbo I have no problem with maintaining 120 rpm, at least for a few minutes.
But the thing is, you would only have to do it for at few seconds, and then let gravity take over.

Similarly I do not go hell for leather on steep decents as based on the V squared rule anything above 50kph comes with huge drag penalty.
However I am suprised to hear that you guys have real issues on decents.
To my mind they have messed too much with the basic algorithm that dictates the restistance based on weigh, slope and speed to try and make the trainer more lifelike and ended up creating a world of differences.

My trainer made a hell of a noise last night when my tyre went and I thought the roller bearing support frame had gone but it turned out to be a bit of the tyre hitting the window behind me.
I thought I was going to have to go and buy a Pro. Well at least then we could share the same issues and race on even terms.
I may consider it anyway as my bearings are begining to rattle a bit.

You mentioned Jacob before and as he weighs 100kg in BKool world he used to fly past me on any downhill however I managed to stay away from him on the chaingang ride so perhaps I am carrying a software bug as well as my trainer won't update to the latest firmware.
Shame is that as I wanted to give Zwift a go but it is not compatible with the BKool Classic without the latest FW.

I don't really get the feeling that anything unfair is going on. We may have our quirks in different places, but in the long run, things seems to end up roughly as they should.
There's no denying that massive watt output of yours, and the only way any of us can beat you, is by utilizing the power of drafting, just as in real-life

Or we could use a moped

An electric bike (which would probably fit straight on the bkool) would do it too. 250 watts + 300 watts uphill would make an AAAC 76C beating 550 watts :cycle:

Chaingang race 7pm tonight!

Session name: Cinctorres-Morella

Look out for the session just after 7pm in the live rides section. If you dont see Rickb in there you're in the wrong ride! 10 minute warm up so race should start at 7:10pm. I know there's been a couple of hiccups recently with using ghosts so hopefully this time all will run smoothly.

If you're struggling to find the session, use the advanced search function at the bottom of the screen and search for 'Rickb' - this will bring up the correct ride to join.

Top tip, go off really fast, dont hold back, that last hill is absolutely nothing to worry about, honest it really isn't, I didn't struggle at all on the last hill

It's a nice course though, either up or down, no flat at all. I didn't get much momentum from the descents to ascent transistions, but my gear changing was severly compromised by a frayed cable.

I had hoped to get off all day but I'm going to have to work this morning and will miss it. Merry Christmas everyone and I'll see you on Saturday.

Hi, Ive requested to join Chaingang. I also have an outstanding request for a few days to Mountain Goats. It would be great if somebody could approve? I also asked and searched if other smart trainers are ok for the cyclechat groups? (I have a Tacx Vortex Smart) I cant find anything conclusive. No worries if they arent, itd just be good to know. Thanks

Well even if I was self-disciplined enough to stay off the beers until 7pm today, I've been told to turn my Bkool pain cave back in to a usable room for our Xmas guests, so that's me out for tonight (may as well have a beer then!)

Good luck everyone doing the stage live tonight -will try and get it done at some point when I can have my room back!

Happy Christmas all
