Not quite Denmark but I used to visit Flensburg quite a bit as well when I had a girlfriend in Schleswig back in the early 1980's.
Always fancied the beaches on Sylt as well, can't think why!
I cant work out if you are an elite athlete, playboy, piss head or comedian?

Just wish I could up with the banter and your riding.:notworthy:

Ok, as you can see I've done it twice after first doing the mtn goat league ride. Trying to stay as close to your ghost during this test wasn't nearly as easy as I thought. On my first attempt you were so far ahead I had to do it again to try and be closer for a better comparison. Funnily enough your speed downhill, even with almost zero power on was way too much for me to keep up. You can see that I powered up to try and stay with you on the second downhill but to no avail. I did however catch and overtake you on the first uphill due to the pro's slingshot when we hit the first hill without power. I got enough of a lead on you to almost be with you when we hit the next downhill (your 400 watts or so was a bit of a challenge for me having just done the goat ride) and again you left me on the downhill. This time when we hit the upslope but at full speed and cadence I felt the resistance tighten as usual but my guy was still speeding along and flew past yours to be 10 seconds ahead. My power spike appears to be only about half of yours but my speed advantage hitting the upslope was much greater.

Sorry Bill, not well explained.
The idea was for you to do as I did and not try and beat me with the idea to show any differences between trainer types and or firmware.
The first transition was supposed to be a freewheel but a) you need to pedal a bit to start moving and b) thereafter if you don't pedal the session times out.
The second transition should be done at your own max chat to the foot of the climb and then take the gas right off, drop onto the small chainring and go up the block to your biggest sprocket and just turn the pedals over gently.
The idea is to see how far you coast under each condition and to see what the powergraph does.

I was in the Army for 24 years, the first 9 of which after 3 years training were spent in Germany hence the girlfriend in the North of Germany, Schleswig.
From there I came back to the UK posted to the Royal Marines Air Sqn who went to Norway every winter for 3 months training.
As an Aircraft Technician I often travelled up with the helicopters hence the visits to Alberg in Denmark as it was our last fuel stop before the transit across the Skaggerak.

So to answer your question:
Elite Athelete - I would say not so but I once was however the lies that the Turbo tells sometimes helps support the rumour that I am once more.
Playboy - Totaly the opposite.
Piss head - My old friends in the AA would be shocked at the thought.
Comedian - I do try, to the point of being trying sometimes, ask my wife!

So, I'm going to be away for a week with work and have to try and work out which ride i can do this month ... want to complete all the league rides but could be tight. Seems I have to do the ChainGang #3 tomorrow, then next chance is 28th when I'll have to do final ChainGang. Only 3 days left then to do 3 goat rides :wacko:xx( Looks like I'll be 2 goats down this month :surrender: Sorry guys!

Sorry I explained the ride badly. I was totally aware that it was not a race but I wanted to see how our riders acted under the same conditions so tried to stay close so that I could see how differently they acted at the slope starts. I don't know if you were able to get much from the graphs but I did more or less hit the first slope at no power and a similar speed to yours and then the second one at full chat. The graphs should show that hopefully.

I'll be off the turbo for the next week or so because of a 24 hour race I'm doing in Scotland this weekend, so with all the preparation that involves and the need for me to rest now, I probably won't be able to re-run that if you're looking for any further comparisons between the trainers. Any other time I'm happy to do rides like that, as it improves our knowledge of the units. Maybe someone else here would like to give it a go and see if they produce a similar graph to me.

I think I also have to do the Chaingang No.3 tomorrow night for similar reason. Will have to go easy though to preserve my energy. Like you, I want to complete the league rides.

I learnt such a lesson over the last 2 days. I did a goat ride yesterday and just kept losing masses of time on the downhill bits. I gained on the ups but not nearly as much as I expected. I had to nearly kill myself to beat Whorty (sorry) on the final climb.
I thought I would go on Zwift today for a change but abandoned after a few miles as I couldn't generate more than 110 watts although was working really hard-I thought there must be a software glitch. I went back and did another bkool climb but still couldn't generate my normal (albeit rather weak and girly) power. I finished the ride and finally realised the problem-a fairly soft back tire!
I know everyone has said how important tire pressure is but I hadn't really appreciated it-I will always check now
Big dilemma-am I going to go back and do the goat ride again?

Good luck. You have my respect. It looks way beyond tough. Are you riding solo again this year?

To show my support I'll eat at a Scottish restaurant (McDonald's) at 57 degrees north lattitude due west of where you're riding.

Thanks Randy. Yes, I'm riding solo again, and will try to avoid the usual 2-3 hours sitting ill in my car around 5am. That always seems to happen since I upped my pace the past couple of years. Enjoy your McDonalds .

What works for me to 'train' your body to up your cadence is do extra low resistance efforts, like and Alpe descent, and get into a gear where you can pedal 100rpm plus. As you say it is important to concentrate on pedaling in circles and not squares i.e. pedal smoothly without smashing up and down on the saddle.
To do this concentrate on keeping your back straight and your rear firmly planted on the sadlle. Don't rock your hips by making sure the movement starts at the hip joint and not above.
Don't worry too much to begin with about increasing the power range of each pedal cycle as this will come with keeping the pedaling smooth.
Hi reps at low power will really get the heart pumping but won't kill the legs too much.
Very useful advice, I certainly need to go down this route. I used to be all about standing up on the uphills and was able to consistently put the power down, but in a very stiff gear at low cadence. Then come the descents or flats I was always left for dead! I will try what you have described at least once a week from now on.
