Here are my suggestions for Saturday's Handicaps and Start Times, tweaked slightly to try and make the finishing stages closer...

The field has closed up due to the success of GailB and GoldWolfie so if your Start time is a little sooner it doesn't mean it's harder, as everyone is starting a little sooner.

Any special pleadings before I copy them to the Handicap thread?

EDIT: adjusted rounding for start time when handicap less than 10 minutes.

I hope you don't mind if I make a small suggestion.

Since we are mainly discussing Bkool on here, for those who's Bkool username is very different to their Cyclechat username, it would be helpful for the rest of us if you had your Bkool username in your custom title, or failing that in a signature.

The custom title is the little phrase that appears under your cyclechat avatar...

Thanks,

Top suggestion!

Well I'm sort of glad Rick's not going to make it now if he'd be setting off a minute before me! :surrender:
 maybe I should give it a go after all!

Bridgy, I took a look at that and it was due to rounding the start time to 30 seconds, you lost and Rick gained. I decided it would be fairer to round to 15 seconds when the handicaps were less than 10 minutes, as 15 seconds each way can make too much of a difference. I've edited the post to reflect this!

This has made the start time difference much closer to the difference in handicap.

Aha - take that @RickB :boxing:, only a measly 30 seconds ahead now! Bet you get a mysterious "injury" in the duathlon now ;)!!

Thanks Geoff - but honestly, I am being very tongue in cheek and will happily go with the flow - at the end of the day it's a really good workout whatever happens as far as I'm concerned (not that I'm thinking like that during the race!)

Saturday is looking increasingly unlikely for me. After extensive negotiations last night, I came away from the discussions, not only less likely to be able to participate, but also with a long list of jobs I need to do.

And it's not the sort of thing you can sneak off and do, with a casual "just off to the toilet love."

I dread to think of the scenarios she would conjure up in her head, when I reappear 45 minutes later, sweating profusely, walking a bit funny and clutching my iPad.

Awwww.... My Saturday re-run just got a whole lot less interesting as you were to be my main target Adam . Not to worry, I'll get you next time:cycle:

Anyway, now I have to find a new target to spice it up again so I just has to be AAAC. I'm not letting you past this time AAAC and now that the handicaps are where they need to be you're going to have to settle for having your 4ss kicked .

Edit: Gauntlet firmly thrown @AAAC 76C :ninja:

Seriously though AAAC, I think we both gave it everything last night so with the new handicaps worked out and possibly 5% in your favour (as it should be I think) hopefully you'll be closing in a km or so from the finish, unless of course I can go a little bit stronger than last nights ride, which is rather doubtful as I did spend some time collapsed on the floor after that effort.

I do find myself wondering if a shorter session would lend itself better to this type of event.
Like a little rolling 10 miler? It would cut down on the variance, and it would hopefully make the group a lot more compact at the finish.
Fancy incorporating a shortish run into the next chain gang league, to establish some base times?
A penny for your thoughts, Lords, Ladies and gentlemen.
And Bill.....pffft....if you had of caught me it would only have been because I died trying to prevent it.

Not a bad plan - will incorporate another 10 mile TT style course hopefully.
