OMG, just logged on, and you're all talking gibberish! I thought I was going to have to use a translator.
I just about got my head round Geoff's 'brief' version, although even that was an effort.
I might go and play Candy Crush for a bit until the conversation swings back round to something I can relate to....like lighting farts.
Worrying isn't it when Add is the voice of reason.

Bkool descents are too fast and blue number descents are way faster than my wheel speed shows

Thats why they go blue.
If the BKool had a drive motor it would kick in and drive your wheel to your unpowered descending speed and then you would have to get on top of the gear and spin up to put more power down.
So with no motor it just backs of the resistance and then you have to apply power to make the blue numbers go up and you can put an lot of effort in and get nowt just like going down a steephill in a bunch where you can get more acceleration by sling-shooting off of another riders draft and then the guy behind you does the same and so on until vMax is acheived and no one can accelerate anymore.

yeah.. I use my garmin 800 every session with the garmin speed/cadence sensor ant+ on.. Its the only sensible way to get my Bkool rides onto my Garmin Connect training diary where its easier to see the stats for the ride as they are on separate graphs.

Bkool descents are too fast and blue number descents are way faster than my wheel speed shows. I never see 40mph or over on real speed, but do on Bkool quite often. inclines +0.5 - 1.0 % sometimes feel way too hard and give slower than wheel speed, but not as far out as the descents. I have never seen blue numbers on any ascent yet....I have had black number 12% with about 350 watts...but at 85kg any climb over 6% thats more than a few seconds long will mean 39 x 23 pretty quickly as they really bite on the resistance and make it really hard to keep a sensible rpm.

The pro unit cadence estimates are also optimistic - generally about 10rpm higher than measured reality.
but at the end of the ride , is the av speed overall about the same . i used to use a garmin while on the bkool and at the end of a virtual ride although there was extreme figures (for me ) both slow and fast , it did seem that the overall average wasnt far out - just wondered if its the same for you

I tried the GPS on my phones Sat Nav and got no speed at all, I can't work it out!!!

What do you mean by a speed sensor, a magnet on a spoke that goes past a pick-up connected to a cycle meter calibrated to the circumferance of the tyre when no one is sat on the bike.
If so thats exactly how the speed is calculated by BKool Trainers except the magnet is on the flywheel and the sensor is on the PCB.
As the roller is an exact diameter that does not change with the weight distribution of the rider it is probably more accurate than the afore mentioned speed sensor.
However when the numbers are blue who knows how fast you are going but you should be able to work it out by your cadence, gearing and tyre diameter.
Try calibrating your speed sensor to some non blue speeds on BSim and see what you get.

Fair enough....but there is a difference. I cant explain it, but my garmin head unit will calculate speed on a road ride by time/distance based on GPS positioning. If you use the speed/cadence sensor that comes with it, it ant+ to the head unit and counts cadence from a magnet on the end of the crank and wheel revolutions from a magnet on the spokes of the back wheel. It uses the GPS positioning data to calibrate distance traveled against wheel revolutions, then cross checks and recalibrates to keep it real.
I can then turbo my lungs out on any turbo safe in the knowledge that my wheel revolutions and hence distance traveled and speed are the same as on a road ride. I dont know of any other way to calibrate the garmin speed/cadence sensor.
It only really the descents where there is a difference worth mentioning. Ill try to keep a better eye on it although the graphs on garmin connect record all that. if I was interested enough it would be good to compare the Bkool stats graph against the connect ones,,I'm not interested enough to spend the time dissecting it. I would think the Garmin speeds are accurate.

Doubt I will be riding tomorrow. Knee very swollen and sore after Saturday's effort. Quite frustrating given the ride still isn't showing.
Congrats on the Active 8 Rick!

Thanks Bob. Haven't moved up the rankings in ages. I guess there just hasn't been a suitable stage but that's easily the biggest watts I've done on a ride. Steep courses suit my style.:training:

Sorry to hear your knees messing up on you. Hope things get better real soon.:thumbsdown:

And then Rob H does the whole thing at 23 kph to our 11's and 12's on his vortex.

I don't think I'll try and challenge that!

Sorry about all the science crap, perhaps we should have a separate thread for it?

Anyway, back to the proper business of you guys riding your socks off...

Due to popular demand...

You're a bloody legend Geoff. Cough is fading fast, spot on my bum nearly gone, I'm about as close to peak physical condition as this decrepit carcase I'm trapped in will permit. Looking forward to it.
