You could run a monthly handicap using the same run each week that was one of the rides from the previous months chain - so March's tuesday handicap would be the same ride each week based on one of Feb's chain rides. Then it changes the following month. Keeps the ride fresh but allows the opportuntiy to alter the handicaps.

Of course, easy for me to say as its Geoff 'BKOOL' B who has do to all the work.

Getting the Handicap's correct for a first run is tricky, so running a stage several times makes sense.

How was the Tuesday night at the slightly later time? It seemed fairly well attended!

If this Tuesday slot works well, we could run the Handicap chases then, so as not to interfere in the Thursday night Chain Gang? We could also run them as a league, without getting in the way of the Chain Gang league, and overlap them.

That would allow us to perhaps run one stage from the Chain Gang (or elsewhere) several Tuesday's over a few weeks, and hence get the Handicaps tuned for the final run? It would also mean just one Handicap Chase a week, so you guys had a chance to recover and do the Chain Gang, Goats and other sessions you want to do.

What do people think, is there demand for a Tuesday Handicap, repeated a couple of weeks in a row with gradually tighter Handicaps?

As the races tend to be full on, choosing slightly shorter stages may mean a bit less strain, I would say the current stage length (31-52 minutes) is about the limit.

Tues Hcap & Thurs group ride would be good. I would ride them both - might struggle as the lights get lighter and I do more road riding.

Geoff, The later Tuesday ride worked out better for me than I expected because I was able to eat my dinner at 5:30 and there was enough time for it to settle before the ride. I normally don't eat until afterwards but this later time made it possible. I'm up for riding every Tuesday if you want to run a handicap weekly and either 7 or 8 is fine for me. Probably eating a good meal 2 hours before hand helped if anything.
That's probably better than stuffing a banana down your throat as you frantically click no to start the race, at least it stayed down.

The only problem with this is that its taken several runs of the current handicap route to get the handicaps about right, and this too was previously a league ride. Problem is some people won't have set a time in the league and it's hard to predict how much some people will improve. This can be smoothed out over time with the same route though, as Geoff has been doing

Hi Geoff. I would also like to join the new handicap group? I have had the Bkool since Christmas and currently cycling from Land Ends to John o' Groats (in stage of about 25 miles). Currenly I am Active 7.

Could you tell a little bit more?

Thanks Wayne

Wayne,

The Handicap Chase is usually a stage most riders have done in an other league, but with a staggered start using handicaps designed to make for a close finish.

More the details are in the first two posts here ... Chain Gang Handicap Race

If you are interested, we will need to work out a Handicap for you.

I'd like to think so, but then I have a warped sense of reality.
You inadvertently replied to a quote I meant to delete. Punching away like a loon at work, on an iPhone, with gloves on, anything can happen....except work of course, as has already been deduced.

But in response to your comment, I have no doubt that you would have reeled me in, given a couple more miles. I was fading fast, and you were still steaming ahead, the writing was on the wall, only the finish line saved me.

How about for this month's Tuesday night Handicap we run Stage 2 from the December Chain Gang, "Tin Can Ten Time Trial"?

http://www.bkool.com/profile/detail/674014?durationType=DISTANCE&lapCount=1

We already have 35 times registered against that, from 21 minutes to 39 minutes, so seems a pretty good length.

We could run it 3 or 4 times, then switch to the next one?

I knocked up the Handicaps for the results posted, and got some suspiciously high fitness athletes with quite high handicaps... might have to tweak those for an initial run. Also, need to fill in others.

Look at the big picture though Bob. We're doomed!

Probably;)
I remember it being an absolute energy sapper with for me at least no alternative but to attack those hills and try and recover on the downhills. Very difficult to keep the energy up towards the end and then you have that cheeky uphill just before the finish. There could be carnage on that hill:ohmy:
