Damn that's cleverWhat tactical discussions?
Here's our tactics.....balls out don't get left behind, especially if your in third place.

If there were 4 in the team and one of you is the third placed guy then that strategy is flawed. The guy who comes in third needs to be drafting the guys ahead at all times preferably. Of course it'll take some time before we get things working well. There may even need to signals to tell our team mates to slow down or speed up.I love the proposal and set up Geoff. I should just about be able to make it tuesday though will have precious little time to warm up.
I think you are pretty much up there with me bridgy so lets perhaps take it in turns to blaze a trail at the front and see who falls off?
Damn that's clever![]()
Thankyou! I came up with that myself. It hasn't been ok'd by the team yet, but I feel to see how it can meet with any objections.I do offer a Team Handicap Strategy service if you're interested Bill.If there were 4 in the team and one of you is the third placed guy then that strategy is flawed. One thing I'm not sure of, is he 3rd placed guy the one who comes in third, so could be any of us? Or is he pre-determined as the guy who came in third in the "qualifying" stage?

Does 'plums out' sit better?I took it as the guy in the team whoose time was used to set the original handicap.
I have a slight objection to the "balls out" bit... I once cycled next to a guy who was wearing a mankini. It's was only a fleeting moment but it has left a permanent scar...![]()
Nope, we can't see a thingFair enough, good plan
(our competitors can't see these secret tactical discussions can they?)

Ah ok, I had read it as the third guy on the road on the day but if it's pre-determined by the previous times you're right, a tactical re-think's requiredIf there were 4 in the team and one of you is the third placed guy then that strategy is flawed. I agree that the median time will bear more relevance than the mean. At least you are taking an actual riders ability into consideration rather than a statistically generated one.I think, of necessity, it has to be the the one who comes third, i.e. the third fastest time in the team, just like a normal Team Time trial.
Otherwise, the pre-determined guy may have a mishap or drop out. That's the point of having the team be at least 4 riders, to make it more likely each team will have a third finisher.
Not sure exactly how to determine the Team handicap, it could be the third fastest riders Handicap, the fastest or the slowest, or perhaps the average of the team?
I quite like the average, but suggest that the median time may be a better average than the mean!

That's bollox Bill, and we both know it. I have two speeds, 'flat out', and 'given up', and that is about the limit of my tactical strategies.Only kidding Adam. I'm sure you'll make an excellent consultant in such matters.![]()
