I would say that there's far less stress on a wheel on the bkool compared to out on the road. Apart from all the crud that gets into your bearings and the rough surface that puts massive load on your wheels, you are generally not putting any lateral load on your wheels and spokes because you have to learn to ride with a style that avoids the tipping motion that you get when you're out of the saddle and pushing hard up a hill. Even when out of the saddle on the turbo you are instinctively avoiding lateral forces. Same goes for carbon fibre frames IMO. Far less harm on the turbo than out on the road.

So if I had my perfect set of wheels which would be Mavic Ksyrium Exaliths then I would keep them for the turbo and for racing out on the roads, but seeing as I don't race out on the roads, they are just too much of an extravagance.

Cheers Bill, I will pluck up the courage and use my powertap rims on the bkool - will be interesting to see how the numbers look. (my gut feeling they are pretty close).

Anyway, tonight's ride is Stage 3 in Berge von Kolle 6x. (And yes, it is what it implies that it is):heat:
7pm. Unless Rick posts that he will be starting it then I will start the ride at 7pm with a 10 min warm-up as per usual.

For any new members you will find the ride under the live tab and you can use the filter search function if necessary using any part of the ride's name to find it.
If you see me on the start line then you will know you are in the correct session.

Please try to join as close to 7pm as possible. In the case of a phantom start which sometimes happens with bkool, I will restart if the timer is at more than 3 min's to go to add on the missed warm up time. Any less than 3 min's to go and the race will start. Hope that makes sense. If not please ask.

See you all on the start line

My youngest has had night terrors last few nights, all about zombies apparently, and after not a lot of sleep I now resemble the Zombie he fears. So if I do make it i may well just take it easy;)

I may give it a go tonight, need all the training i can get...
did my first TT of the year this week, a club ten on the bumpy exposed windy country lanes in the wilds of Essex, got caught at the turn for 4 minutes by Alex Dowsett! Ended with a short 27 for me, a 19 for Alex!
He could have stopped for coffee and still beaten me

Makes you sick these monsters who do 10s in no time at all, 19mins, it must be a sight to see the speed difference, with an average Joe

Our 10 the slowest go first, and so on. On occasion a domestic racing team rider will turn up and smash the course record. Fortunately I am early racer so don't have shame of being shown how to time trial properly ^_^

Bill, you sneaky devil . You went and took over the league lead while everyone was looking the other way...well done :okay:.

Thanks Lars. I was surprised how long it took anyone to notice. And yes, I did it in a very sneaky way, with you beating me by 0.1 of a second ^_^. Interestingly I couldn't honestly say that drafting your ghost made it much easier. It was very useful to know where you were but I didn't feel a drafting advantage. I think it can only be done live. Otherwise you could just keep on drafting your own ghost and go faster and faster. Our w/kg was almost identical.
Unfortunately for me that ride means I'll be suffering on tonight's ride.

I'm just a spectator this evening, not feeling great at the moment.

Damn, my chain got stuck big time :cursing:. I had to remove the cassette to free it in the back and a hammer to knock it free in the front. I just fitted a new rear wheel and thought I had the gears adjusted OK.
It certainly would have worked fine in the real world, but these up & down Bkool stages demands a perfect 100% adjustment.

Hard luck @LBHIFI - really frustrating when something like that happens mid race

Damn @BILL S I thought I might have had you there for a bit - you paced it brilliantly though - whilst I was dying a slow and painful death on the last 2 ascents! Good race!
