And it wasn't a close thing either. I think I got an early lead for a few seconds after we passed the 0.1 mile marker but almost everyone just picked me off after that. I'm not sure why but it felt somehow slow to me compared to usual. I had low tyre pressure to deal with the slope but that shouldn't have caused a problem at the speeds we were going. My power reading seemed lower than expected which is a bit of a mystery, but it could easily just have been me not making enough power even though it felt like I was. Absolutely nothing I could have done to go any faster though. I'm wondering if I should put on a different tyre and join tonight's session and see if there's a difference.
Bill, I found my power figures were noticeably down with the lower weight as well. In fact, looking at when we did this climb on the chaingang bonus stage, both our average watts are down by almost exactly 40 watts. Part of this for me would have been pacing myself a bit more as I knew it was 3 times longer I had to keep going for, but I also noticed the power on the screen was showing lower than I would normally expect.

I am surprised with your fitness level that you're not doing relatively better on the hills though so I do wonder if there is some kind of set-up problem for you that is affecting your hill climbing speed/power?

I notice that AAAC's stage winning ride is still not showing on the league results for some reason?

@theboxers @Goldwolfie and @Northern Tortoise

If you guys are thinking of doing the Merry Harriers x3 stage again, I suggest you adjust your Handicap weight downwards (as we used higher values than your FTP originally, and I would say that the Handicap was too high)...

@Northern Tortoise - 47.5 Kg (104.72 pounds)
@Goldwolfie - 45.5 Kg (100.31 pounds)
@theboxers - 36.2 Kg (79.77 pounds)

These are using your FTP values, it will be interesting to see what difference they make.

Cheers,

Geoff

Hi Geoff, I'm back from down under and fancy a pop at the new handicap race. can you suggest a weight for me please? I've not done much over the past 3 weeks apart from eat (:mrpig:) and work so my current FTP of 239 might be a bit generous as I git this back on 5th April. My current weight (just weighed myself) is 89.5 kg.

Welcome back Whorty doing a re run at 8 if you are up for it?

Geoff will need to do some of his mathamagicianing but if he isn't about your power is similar to mine so a similar weight would probably be right (ish)

OK, I've created a session for tonight, with @JLaw's ghost as a backup, and tried again to add a Split for the 0.1 starting point.

As before, please don't pass @JLaw until after 0.1 miles, use the real JLaw if present, rather than his ghost! :thumbsup:

I'll start the warm up as yesterday, at 8pm, and the countdown should end around 8:10pm BST (UTC+1)

SIgh. I did another run at the weight handicap ride last night. Finished 58 seconds faster, but bkool lost the damn session. It's not showing up in my history and it's not showing up in the simulator as unsent or failed. It's just gone in the ether... And after two runs up in <24hrs , I'm not sure if I'm going to have the legs to try hard again today... We'll see..

It's peeing down oustide so I thought I'd give the Merry Harriers weight handicap ride a go. Set my weight to 60kg. Was going along ok then Arrrrggghhh. 2.5 miles in and Bkool Sim crashed. Was doing well too. Tried a second time but just didn't have the legs to do it again so quickly afterwards so aborted. Reckon I was about a minute and a a half faster for the first lap of three so hard to say how quick I'd have done the remainder. Interesting how the weight changes the effect on the hills. Will try again another night.
