First impression is that it's not as nice as my 6.9 Kg carbon bike, obviously at 18.5 Kg it feels a lot heavier and less precise, but comfy ride on 32mm road tyres (durano). In sport mode it picks up very quickly, but I could only ride around the car park today, I plan to try it up the Merry Harriers ASAP. Turning in the car park it felt very stable and handled nicely, should be fun on a downhill. Whips up to 25 kph very quickly, but then the assistance will quit so it's no advantage anywhere other than an incline, where a fit cyclist would drop below 15 mph.

To keep getting fit, I'd probably put it on minimum assistance and try and climb at the same rate as my friends, but keep my heart rate below 130-140. As I lose weight and get fitter and stronger, I should be able to do more on the normal road bike, whilst still keeping my heart rate down.

I did 20 miles on Sunday at an average around 12 mph, and enjoyed getting out, but my heart rate was hitting 150 as soon as I tried to make any power, so I had to back off all the time, and I'm still getting told off for doing to much, so a year or so on the assisted bike with a lower heart rate might be sensible.

My wife has suggested getting a couple of them in the future, and spending holidays riding around in the Alps on them, which sounds like a great idea. Go up at a pace that suits, admire the views and then whizz down again... sounds like a good way to spend your retirement! :okay:

Geoff

That sounds - and looks - great Geoff. Good luck with your progress to fitness

That looks like my Turbo Hack but your battery is smaller!
^_^ (you said that out loud you know!!)

Thanks for the encouragement by the way AAAC - and for telling me off for having a little rest on the descent!

Hope you get on well with it - I saw one in the Giant store in Sheffield over the weekend, and it looked great, and was tempted myself.

Thanks for your many encouragements throughout the evening AAAC. Sorry I wasn't able put out the kind of watts and cadence you were suggesting at various points, but I did try, and at least I did get to the end of each ride with my hr less than 190 and not throwing up all over the place. Well only just. xx(

I just did the 1st stage of New July League, and I think I had problems with what seemed like to high watts. I say "think" because I really felt strong today, but my pulse was too low for the watts I put out.
I aborted the session after 10k and tried again. After some time it seemed to reappear and I then tried to stop completely and wait a few seconds until Bridgy pasted me. After the 1st stop watts seemed normal again, but only for a few minutes. Tried the procedure again, and again it worked for a few minutes. The third time it seemed to last, think that was about half way through.
Then I had a few problems with sudden stops where it felt like I was going up 14% even though it was almost flat. Bridgy flew past me the few times that happened.
All in all a strange experience, but still a good workout.

Very odd - sounds frustrating

Yes, the watts readout is too high on that stage for some reason. When I was testing it for the league I made somewhere like 450 watts average and it bumped me up to elite1. The new firmware does seem to show higher watts though, especially on the flat, but that ride you just did reads much higher still.

Appreciate you had problems on that stage so may want to do it again but I do like the fact that currently, after over 2 hours of racing over 3 stages, we're separated by just 5 seconds overall
