All this talk of the DD and lots of teeth on the cassette has got me wondering if the 12-27t I run won't be adequate for such a ride. Unfortunately for me, the biggest I can go to is 29t unless I change shifters, deraileurs etc..

This left me perplexed the other day. Seemed there were no scheduled or favourite rides showing.
I can see favourites (but only 8) under the league rides, but can't see a section for scheduled rides (non-league) at all

Sometimes you can muck about with the rear mech to allow for bigger gearing. possibly by getting a longer cage.

I can't do this with my best bike groupset (SRAM etap), but I could on my other bike (shimano ultegra). I'd rather ride the nicer bike so I'm hoping with a semi compact chainset I can get away with it.

It might be worth doing a bit of research with regards your groupset.

Based on advice from Adam & Bill I changed my rear cassette to a 32, and I needed a longer rear hanger to do it. I was really glad I did - the Devil's Staircase and Elbow are super-steep, and the sheer length of the ride and amount of climbing meant having a nice low gear to spin in was really welcome

Kipster you generally don't have to change shifter only rear derailleur. What setup do you have? Rear derailleur are cheap enough, and with a cass being cheap aswell 11-32 or 11-34 11-36 are possible. other option is a mtb crankset 38/26 36/22 depending on bottom bracket. I did fit a 36/22 Shimano slx crank and a 11-36 cass to my wifes shopper bike which had a road size bottom bracket. It works a treat and allows her to climb silly hills and she is not a dedicated rider.

My personal setup involves a custom hanger and 11-40XT cass, married to Shimano 50/34 crank on my CXR

Hills then become no problem at all, you just spin up at a comfortable pace

Am I right in saying that on the new Bsim, they have also forgotten to include access to non-league scheduled rides....? (As pointed out to me by Monte)
No, I'm not right! Programmed (or scheduled) rides do show up above the league rides - I just didn't have any scheduled so it didn't appear

Would love to, but last time I did ventoux it took me 2hrs 15 mins .... not sure I want to finish that at 9-30 on a Monday! I'm hoping to be at home on Wednesday so may kick off a ride some time around 5. Might try the latest chaingang tomorrow night as not done that yet.
I slogged my way up last night. Couldn't keep up with your or my ghost from last year. Wrapped up at 2:50ish. But I didn't feel as horrible when I finished this time.

. It hurt on the tourmalet yesterday @ 1.37. :cursing: 3 hours, :surrender:. I need some lower gears .

I'm on a VO2 workout session tonight. 46 minutes of pain I expect :banghead:.

Well im seriously thinking of joining some of you for the DD, but if i did i would want hydraulic brakes seen a couple of planet x bikes but trying to convince the wife is going to be a tough job.
Don't like the idea of going down a welsh hill in the rain on carbon rims bad enough on the flat:wacko:.

By then, snow drops will be out and the snow will be melting in the valley bottoms. Just need to dodge glaciers or very slow cyclists riding up ridiculous gradients
