Just catching up - well done AAAC and Bobinski - great rides

I was kind of expecting that because I knew I didn't do a strong ride yesterday, having buried myself the day before! I would probably have benefited from an extra day's rest but my Bkool cave has been transformed back into a comfortable conservatory for our visitors today!

I clearly wouldn't make a good grand tour rider!

@bobinski you would surely come second in the league if you'd done stage 1 up Col de la Bonette?

Ta Bridgy, I did try to even things out a little by doing a Zwift ride immediately before Ventoux and while a little more than a warm up it wasn't quite 'huez!. If you had been there churning your usual 360w plus I would have struggled to say with you.

I may try Bonette in the morning - if it still counts. And perhaps even if it doesn't.

If your 42 your want 43 or 43.5 in Shimano but 45 will be too big.

I use some Mavic sport/touring shoes that clip to the mountian bike cleats. Not quite as good power transfer as road shoes and they are heavier but I can walk around my gaff with gay abandon with no fear of tripping or slipping.
Looks like they don't make mine no more but they are a bit like this but older:

And I use pedals like this

Excellent contact area for comfort and power transfer.

Ha!
AAAC wipes the floor with us and he doesn't even use spdl or carbon soles!
I should be moving my summer bike onto th turbo next weekend with speedplay pedals and uber stiff shoes and so will be interesting to see if it makes any difference.

Well done all for tackling Ventoux. Some ridiculously impressive times there which I will not be trying to match in my attempt tomorrow. Bob you are becoming a real weapon on the hills these days and you have the w/kg to back it up. AAAC you seem quicker than ever with the new trainer. As for the heavier guys, doubly well done for finishing. Who needs the Mooses when you can take on the Goats?!

I've been up it 3 times before quicker but that was when the SW/FW was kinder to me.
Based on Bike Calculator if I knocked my weight down to 74kg it would give me another 0.6 mph, about 1 kph.
That would have made my average speed 19.3 kph so a time of 1 hr 6 min 50 secs, almost 4 min quicker at 5.27 W/kg instead of 4.87.
Not sure if it would really calculate out like that though.

I asked Bkool if it's possible now to connect the Bkool pro trainer via bluetooth smart (BLE) with a Ipad 4.
They said that it is possible now (see below).
Does anyone did this allready? Because I couldn't make it until now.

"Hi Bkool,
I have a Bkool pro trainer, bought in september 2015.
On the webside I read it has bluetooth smart.
Is it possible now to connect the Bkool pro trainer via bluetooth smart (BLE) with a Ipad 4? And how can I do this?

Hi Beachrider,
Thanks for your message. Bkool Pro and Go trainers can be paired via Bluetooth to any compatible computer or tablet, and be controlled by our simulator, without using the ANT+ USB dongle.

Besides, Bkool Indoor simulator can detect other Bluetooth Smart (4.0) trainers and also any power, speed, cadence or HR compatible sensors via Bluetooth Smart (4.0). However, it won't be able to control other brand trainer's resistance, just the Bkool Pro and Go models.
See you at Bkool,
Bkool Team"

What is your crurrent trainer FW version?

Cheers Bob, but as a short-arse i'm only a size 42. Never used clip pedals and have avoided them until now as really nervous about using them and falling off the bike (not on the turbo but on the road). Which variety is best for a complete novice?
My knees like the extra float of Crank brothers candy pedals you can turn the cleat around if you want them tighter, and I use Chrome Kursk shoes that let you walk when off the bike.

I think the stiffness of the shoe makes much more difference than the type of pedal you use. With regards power transfer.

I think if you buy a mountain bike shoe and the road bike shoe equivalent (same brand, same model), the mountain bike shoe is normally stiffer. This is due to the added moulded grip built into the sole. This will be the case until you get to the top range shoes which have 100% carbon soles. I rode spd's for over ten years, when I crossed over and started using some low/mid range specialized road shoes I was really surprised how much flex they had in them. I had to spend a bit more money to get road shoes that were as stiff as my old MTB shoes. Personally I'd put comfort first every time. Ecspecially when planning to do long rides in them.

I think the only advantage of road shoes is the fact they are lighter as they have less material.
