All this talk about blue numbers and resistance limits the two things I can add is I agree with you all in the 20% may be a bit of a big claim but I am sure that before they introduced the blue I could actually feel more resistance than I get now. I can remember standing up doing 4 kph on a 25% using a compact with a 12/28 block.
This was on my Classic and Pro riders were hurtling past me, not because of resistance limits but different firmware.

The other thing is that I have done some weight test but I can't remember the outcome but basically I created a session with changing slopes and tried to keep my power steady so as the slope went up my cadence went down and there was a definite point where my cadence flat lined..

Calculated speed by BKOOL due to limitations in the hardware...

Try the slope thing yourselves, the session is called:
Up and Up 1% per 200m
Find the right gear, power and cadence on the lower slopes then stay in that gear and power and see what distance your cadence stops changing. At that point you should see blue numbers but it may not be obvious at the time, and you will probably need a cadence sensor as the Pro cadence can be a bit eratic.
Do it once at a 'lightweight' and once 'heavy'
Do both sets at high and low power and see if the power effects the cadence flat line.
If nothing else it will keep you busy for an hour or so.
Don't forget to make a note of the weight you used for each session but the answer should be in the results by dividing average power by average W/kg

In a nutshell yes. It is used when the hardware reaches its limit and adjusts your speed accordingly. So if you reach max resistance then it slows your speed down. What it will not do is add further resistance as it is unable to, so us fatties can still ride a 15% slope and cadence at 80 rpm rather than grinding up or alternatively 'doing a wiggo'

Thanks, so most of the time you get what might be called "actual speed" but for various reasons Blue calculated speed is shown/recorded instead??
Correct

You will see it on climbs at around 10% and upwards for most and for steeper descents.
For some bizarre reason you can even see blue sometimes in velodrome rides, FNY.

Got it, thanks, I understand now. Cheers:blush:

Agreed, also steep descents can be calculated but beware as I have found that around 115kph the trainer does a dead stop... unless this has been changed in any update...

Yes - what Daddy Pig says.

Speed can also go blue downhill and is the opposite - this is when you aren't pedalling fast enough to keep up with the speed or acceleration the software thinks you should be doing down that hill! In these circumstances you can stop pedalling and your speed can continue to increase. You'll soon get the hang of it when you've done a few rides and had a play around
