I honestly spent a week stuck in a bus in the Tibetan Himalaya's following a snow storm. This was about 30years ago. I got frost nip too. And no, before anyone asks, not in the knee;).
What's all this talk about ninjas running around in pyjamas when it gets cold, and what the hell were they doing in a bus in the Himalayas ?...
Hmmm, could it be that Google is pulling my leg with the "nip" thing ?:ninja:

That's when I started all over post divorce. My first wife was canny with my cash as well, kept it all herself!
My first wife walked away with a house free and clear and a cash settlement well into 6 digits. She then blew every penny at nearby casinos, lost the house and everything she owned in bankruptcy... I kept the new house (with mortgage) an older property (rental) and since paid off the new house and purchased the vacation home and set aside enough for the kids to go to college and for my new wife and I to retire at some point.

Hi. I'm just about to buy a smart trainer, in part to use with Bkool but also to try out other simulators. (Not having a trainer at the moment I can't say which I will end up with, although I like the sound of Bkool.) I've read some of the posts about unlevel playing fields if one uses a trainer other than Bkool Pro with Bkool (and it's the Kickr Snap that I'm thinking about), but on the other hand there are also posts saying that strange things happen even with the Bkool Pro. So, I'm confused about the bottom line. Would using a Kickr Snap with Bkool be a significant issue in practice? I'm interested in exercise, fun and being sociable, as opposed to being serious! Thanks for your thoughts.

Anyone watching Tour de Celeb on Channel 5? Worth catching up with, a bunch of minor celebs training to ride the etape. What they ask of novice cyclists is quite brutal!
I've been watching it, I dont normally do 'reality shows' but as there is cycling involved I thought I would give it a go, and I am enjoying it.

I liked the quote about the Surrey Hills being the hardest place in the uk to cycle, I'm sure Wales, Scotland, Peak district, and Lake district liked that!

I've been most impressed with Angelica, she might not be fast but she gets it done.

Also worth a watch was Guy Martins, Our Guy in China, he rode across a desert in China, 341 (or something) miles on a single speed. He had to do it in under 47 hours to break the record.

Someone with a better knowledge of the equipment will be along soon, I've only ever used Bkool trainers with either bkool or zwift software and it's all worked well for me.

Yes watched the first 2 episodes last night, unsurprisingly the sports people even though retired are all throwing themselves at it and the reality stars are being a bit pathetic.

Entertaining to watch not sure how far up a hill I would get with Louis Spence before I wanted to kill him.

The next Handicap Chase is 2016 Banff GranFondo S3

Next run is 8pm (plus Start Time) tonight, Tuesday 6th December 2016.

Start Times (Handicaps) are as follows... (when underway time equals or exceeds the given Start Time).

If anyone else wants to take part, can they let us know a competitive time for the stage, or failing that their fitness level and who they usually finish close to.

Your handicap is based on your previous times, and is used to generate a Start Time.

Like golf, the higher the Handicap the more assistance you get, so the earlier the Start Time.

Your Handicap is reduced slightly if you have only completed one chase, and reduced more if you have completed none (and your time is based on doing the stage outside the handicap format). Therefore you are rewarded for completing the handicap chase once, and rewarded more for a second one, as your time should more closely reflect your current potential.

Finally, the Handicap is also reduced slightly for those who are furthest behind the fastest time, as they have more chance of significantly improving their times. The front runners will always struggle to improve their times much, especially after a couple of runs, so they need the full Handicap to stay competitive.

This algorithm has developed across several stages (and previous Chain Gang rides) and closed the bulk of the field from around 10 minutes to around 3 minutes, and hopefully future runs will close it up again slightly.

It is always likely that the win will be taken by an early starter who improves significantly, which is probably a good thing as it improves motivation. It is also possible that any significant under performance on previous bests will result in trailing in at the back, for even the fastest riders. I don't think this can be helped. However, so long as the bulk of the entrants finish close together it should make for a more entertaining session for the majority, and make the format worthwhile.

Starting procedure is here...

Chain Gang Handicap Race

I have recorded a short video showing the procedure here

I'll post here when the warmup starts, and again at the end of the warmup, which I will do my best to get as close to 8pm as possible.

To make life easy, I suggest we all take the start times as minutes and seconds past 8pm (synch watches...) unless start is very delayed!

If anyone rides the league session before hand, please finish before 7:50 pm and use a password to avoid sequences of non league members joining and keeping the ride going beyond then!

Password is usually chase I'll post here if any different!

Thanks,

Geoff

Thanks Geoff. I have a bad feeling about this!

I obviously did far too well in my last outing on this particular course!

@gbrown - I did email Bkool over a week ago regarding the glitch with joining password protected rides by the way. They replied that they would get their software developers to look at it and get back to me.....
