Well, yes I was . I was trying to see if I could get through stage two with a 52T in front. Front gear shift is very unreliable with the 52T, so I try to avoid that. Almost didn't make it over that 11%, stuck in a silly heavy gear.

You may need to move the front derailleur up a bit to accommodate the larger chainring.also check the width as this may be different and you may need to adjust the end stop.
I'm possibly looking for a 60t for the chaingang and use a 11-25 know the rear. Not sure 60/39 will work that well!

Tomorrows diary.
Get into town early, Christmas Shop, then Cinema at 13:50 then back home to help Bill and Bob (not Ben) at 17:00.
If DP turns to he can run off all the way home on his tod unless Bridgy turns to.
If that happens I will try and get all of the 'old boys' together to challenge.

To be honest, it is unlikely that you should use the 28 as the chain should be too short if you are using a short cage derailleur based on correct setup for a 52.

34/52 is outside of the shimano specified limits.
I to run 53/34 and no way can you have much power on going from 34 to 52.
I do have a medium cage though and my cassette is an 11/32 so 10% are a 'spin in the park'.

It's an easy equation. Drive/driven. Higher the number meams bigger top gear, such as: 53 (largest front chainring) / 11 (smallest chainrings on cassette) = 4.82.
However, if you only had a compact 50t chainring and 12-28 cassette, top gear ratio = 50/12= 4.17
Therefore you are losing out on ((4.82/4.17)-1)×100% at the top end, which is 15.6%.

Not going to make the Chain Gang rerun...yet another birthday party.
I have been of the bike for almost a week, suffering from a bikers worst nightmare disease: An inexhaustible crave for junk-food while being a lazy bastard.

Seriously though, I have just had an insatiable thirst and hunger, while having headache and being drained for energy, a bit like having a never ending hangover .
I may try one of the chaingang stages at noon, but not sure I will be able to put in a 100% effort.

I will hopefully do the re-run at 5pm but based on the pain it caused on Thursday I'm not totally looking forward to it!

Just been up to the loft to get the Christmas decorations down and change my rear tyre. I decided to leave it. Checked psi and down to just over 95 So all pumped up again and I will see how that goes.
I am not around tomorrow pm for the goat ride if anyone fancies doing it with me in the morning- depending on how knackered I am after today's ride.

I prefer gear inch calculations, easier for my little brain to comprehend!

Turbo is in transit to wiggle, @bazzer99 has lent me a spare classic he had, but I decided to ride outside in the grizzly weather today, bike was filthy.
